Titus' date=' I don't think your argument holds any water.

Unless you call long gravel roads or simple jeep track technical your comment holds no water. On the technicality side my mother could do the Epic if she was fit enough. The only technical stuff you need to know on the epic is how to keep in a straight line.

Tokai forest is 123521% more technical than any day on the Epic.

I hope so' date=' was a little dissapointed that he didn't go to marathon worlds.......I think  he can get some good results in the marathon discipline internationally......[/quote']

He's got the physical ability to do alot of damage at the marathon worlds, the issue comes in with his technical ability.

They use proper mtb routes for the marathons not what we call marathon courses at all.

Yebbo Yes, Mr ti hits it on the head. I rode what is now called a Kona 100 event in Wales a few years back, Bloody bloody hard. thats Proper Mountain Biking. In fact I have Trans Wales on my radar for next year if this Epic thing does not work out. Only 80ish km per day but it's proper trail riding, none of this gravel road / karoo boredom.

I don't think anyine ever doubted David's ability on the bike, its his way of dealing with people that made him come short.

2009 epic is supposed to be more technical tho? Are they still gonna make it so long then? Wouldnt 50km of technical be more or less the same as 100km of gravel roads?

I never claimed 2008 was technical, but there were the best MTB'ers in the world there and DG held is own. Without DG, KE wouldn't have faired as well as he did and I'm sure Kevin would confirm this.

2009 Epic is a long way away. If DG puts his mind to it and I'm sure he will, he'll be as good as KE on the technical sections at Epic 2009. The marathon champs come after Epic so DG has more time to hone his skills. I'm sure he'll be in the top 10 should he go.
