My granny is my most used gear on my bike! I think people just take it off for the ahhhhhh effect.

Walking may be the same speed as riding, but you still have to get off your bike and more difficult get back on on a steep section and this costs time.

it's not really any slower. Slow is slow Once it's rideable again everyoe starts going at the same speed.

29x34 is as close as dammit a reduction as 22x28.

29x 32 is smaller than 22x24.

so ineffect you only lose the granny gear which is actually a crutch for not being fit.

Usually they change to a Dura Ace front shifter and a narrower BB to save more weight when going to 2 rings. Kiwi2008-08-25 03:33:13

I see even more of the pros are riding tubbies and more manufacturers are making them too. Anyone in SA riding MTB tubbies?

Tubbies are monumentally expensive and very impractical for general use mtb, racing is another story. Wheather you slime them or not a tubbie is definatley more likely to leave you in the lurch than a good old clicher is.

I use a Dura Ace front derailleur. It just about gets the chain onto the big ring.......just.

A Dura Ace triple will solve that problem and it's 30grams lighter than XTR
