So there I was this am on my normal training ride. Thought it was a nice day so would head up Kloof Neck (very nice climb in CBD Cape Town) when all of a sudden about 200m into the climb on the nice steep drag and f*$^#n taxi pulled out and it me. He let the car in front of me go and then slowly edged forward. As my rear wheel mid way past the front of the car we went and guess what.. Yeah hit me.

<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Now there was no damage to me and the bike only has a buckled wheel. All the bastard could say was I?m sorry. I then asked him for is details but refused to give them so I just took his plate numberl? This then got nasty and heavy words were involved. During this argument the twat said I must look out for him and I should have stopped. 2 things how can I stop if I can?t see him as he hit me from behind. Secondly to those that know Kloof Neck the road user either coming up or down have right of way. There is only 1 set of traffic lights at the bottom?

This is now the 6th car that has hit me in my cycling career, now I know there was no damage to me and I can deal with a buckled wheel but I?ve had enough now.

What can I do to take this forward to the authorities. I want this twat dealt with and all of his kind..

Any advice???

suck it up, thank God you have your life still, and forget about it, Taxi's you will never see a cent, they think they own the roads and that the law is beneath them...the cops won't do a thing either.

6th??? Holy crap! Get a MTB! Also, realise that the majority of car drivers are idiots who believe that you don't belong on the road.

I was hit by a learner driver in a little blue car this morning on Ontdekkers Rd, Roodepoort.  Her mirror knocked my arm off the handlebar and I fell into the car.  i think she got more of a fright than I.  I actually felt sorry for her.  I'm fine but her car might need to visit Chip-Away.

After commuting for a while you learn that on a bike you've got no chance against a car/taxi/bus so shrug and be nice - as difficult as it might be.  Read the thread on commuting - Johan Bornman got awesome advice.

On the other hand, a long rag and a match will do something...

I am calm. Just pissed. As for comuting I have been doign this for 5 years. Also got a MTB but need to be doign training for the DC.

I can't believe your attitudes towards this. From what I undrstand you seem to only care if somebody is seriously injured. If thats the case then people will never learn.

It is about time that somebody did something.

Stop getting in the way of cars!! Tongue

Taxi's are generally a$$holes. I commute over Kloof, and if I see a taxi, I wait - cause they don't care. I also shout to make myself known, often feel like and idiot doing it, but I'm still on my bike!

Count your blessings!!

and do the following;

1. Buy yourself a really, really bright rear light and switch it on even during the daytime.

2. Buy yourself a safety vest and wear it. Rather be an uncool alive cyclist than a cool dead one!!!!

3. Ride defensively (I know you gonna say you do, but trust me, give it some thought).

4. The next time you see a Taxi, wave and give the thumbs upThumbs%20Up sign and you will be surprised how much room he gives you.

5. Say a couple of Hail Mary's and enjoy the great outdoors!!!

Go to the cops and lay a charge or reckless driving. Is there such a charge? Or hows about assault with a deadly weapon (taxi) with the intention of doing grievous bodily harm?

good luck Azonic with that, i'm guessing you going to get laughed at, they just don't care, that's why so many people take the law into there on hands, because the people who are supposed to protect and serve, don't give jack S... 1hill@aTime2008-09-02 00:49:21
