I've lived in cape Town my whole life and I complain about the locals all the time! Problem is, I've stopped greeting because I never get greeted back. So my rides start friendly and by half way I'm so pissed off with the cyclists and drivers that I stop greeting! You point out to someone that they reallly should wear a helmet, you get told off. Please stop at red light "F you". Please don't text while cycling "F% You". Please pass with more space "get off the F%^&ing road" So ya, I agree with you Jaco. Cape Town attitute stinks.

Do you still meet at 6:30 at Rhodes Mem? Looking for cruise across the mountain tomorrow!

Hi all, My friend's Cannondale EVO 2012 was stollen from his house yesterday in Pinelands. Please keep a look out for it. I will post pics as soon as he sends. It's simple, phone the traffic department. I'm sure the cops woulnt mind some extra cash from tickets issued.

Without reading the entire thread...I'd say speak to some other ladies. There are plenty of skills clinics offered for women starting out. It really makes a big difference getting advice from experienced ladies. We've done it all, dont have to reinvent the wheel. Drop me a PM, and i'll help you out.

Sub 3 - 2:59:15, 16th lady. Not alot of thanx to the guys in the group though. Somehow everyone wants the sub 3, very few are willing to work for it. Thanks to Sanchez and another A rider who pulled so strongly from top Chappies to the end. Pity about all the dead weight we had to carry along with us. Very glad to have dropped off the VB, VM and ladies before things went horribly wrong. Now it's Epic time...

My coach assisted in a study as SSISA for this exact thing. There was somthing like a 15% drop in performance between 15 degrees and 35 degrees over a 40km TT. That'll obviously vary according to personal fitness, weight, etc etc etc! Personally I feel like I die in heat, but I do cope alot better than most. So it's all relative I guess!

It would be interesting to see what bikes the top 10 ladies in marathons and short course cross country ride. I think in Attakwas only one was on a 29er Hardtail (MTBmom) The rest of us were on lightweight 26ers. If I'm right, that doesn't necessarily hold true to you're "if she is a racer, 29er" statement. Woman's MTB racing is very different from that of mens - we aren't 2m tall riding large frames. 26er's suit our size!

I tried my Epic partner's Giant 29er this weekend, and she tried my Scott 26er. Both Dual sus. Mine Carbon, hers Alu. Mine 10.4kg, her's 13(ish)kg. Both smalls. We are both the same height and weight as your wife. The 26er won that test. I didn't try the 29er downhill, however, but the big deal is the climbing. She's light, the weight of the bike makes a huge difference at 55kg! The frame sizes are the issue at this size. A dual sus 29er in a small, is virtually equivalent to a medium 26er. Get her to try out a couple of 29ers in small. and then a couple of 26ers. It's the best way to go about choosing. Dont let the bike shop bully her into buying a 29er either. She must feel comfortable on the bike first and foremost.

Yes you do. The Comms will tell you that unless there was a witness - ie a marshal, there isn't alot they can do. However, they can issue a warning to the offending party. I had the same issue with the woman in Cobra. all that happened was a warning was issued after I spoke to her and she went to the comms. The next race they reitterated that you may not draft any other group other than the one you started with. So that rider will have mark against their name, and if caught again will be DQ'd.

Tried to catch you, but with the cars and your descending ability, there was no chance. You put in 2 minutes on me - wish I hadn't stopped :-(

I saw this topic, and was ready to jump on and go on about the "racing woman" jumping on with passing bunches and getting a free ride. But then I started reading. Hmmm, poor form is thinking that it's poor form to draft a female cyclist. We train as hard, race as hard, if not harder. And we have to work in the bunch, just like everyone else. Noone likes wheel suckers, male or female. So when the girl ends up pulling for a bit, that's great...what's the issue?!?!?

Really a great race. Loved every minute. Was my first Atta, although did do it in Pioneer 2010 too. Was pretty happy with my 6:45. Had a bit left for an attempted sprint for 5th (lady)...dam corners got me 6th! Can't complain, everything was brilliant. Dryland you out do yourself every event. My (new) husband lost his wedding ring, either en route (probably) or at the finish when he took off his gloves. If anyone picked it up, please let me know. We've only been married one month, and he's already losing it!!

The real problem comes when race organisers join short and long routes just before big climbs or single track. Then everyone is tired. As a woman, we race slower than the leading men, so will be further behind the short route field - and the walkers and pushers. I tend to be loud, and shout from a distance that I am on your left/right, please hold your line (non single track) usually works well. But then there will always be that one ass that has to chirp something about the race has already been won, or something equalily intelligent. when meanwhile, I am leading the ladies race. On single track, if there's someone slower than me, I look for ways around, let them know that I'm passing and do so. If someone is faster behind, I offer them track, and move when I can. Also works well. Pet hate - the two riders chatting away at 2kph taking whole track. 3 ppl pushing a very ridable hill next to eachother. And ppl swerving on decents...that's just dangerous, never mind passing!

Depends how much oil you want to leak. If the damage is low down and the seals will passs over it alot during a ride, you'll have to look at replacing the stanshions. And BTW if it's a fox, that will cost about R3500 to replace the stanshions.

From what I understand is that this ruling was made only within the past week. There are two very good reasons why I agree with the rule: 1. safety of the rider wearing the camera...fiddling with the record/stop button while riding could cause injury. ie losing concentration on path, crashing, etc. With chesty - you could land on the camera and injure yourself even more. 2. safty of the other riders around you. A very good example of this was from Amarider 100 miler this year. Guy has GoPro on handle bars, bounces off and he brakes to pick it up. He took down 7 people, one of which broke his arm and another has to pull out due to broken derailleur. I own a GoPro, and love the footage, but wont race with it. Get all the footage I need from my training rides.

My Race Report on the LangsBaviaans

That was certainly one of the toughest things I've ever done. Had a super strong team, and got me to the end. 11:52:33. Waaay to long to be on a bike. I really enjoyed that decent down to Grootrivier...AWESOME!!! Even enoyed the climb up to check point 3.

Just a little ;) Weather for the wknd is shifting though, no more rain at start. Thats also the wrong Bergplaas i put there, but its not much worse!
