And if you buy a second hand bike WITH the original invoice supplied (if it's a top end bike would the owner not hang onto this)' date=' how is the manufacturer to know you're not the 1st owner...?[/quote']

I suppose you have to go through the retailler. What retailler is going to lie about the invoice if he has been jimmy'ed out of a sale.

Spose a good relationship with your LBS could come in handy...

The problem is buying a second hand bike often goes against building a good relationship. Tough one.

Some shops selling "boutique" frames have used ones where a customer has upgraded etc and they will honour the warranty.

If your LBS owner will soon become your son-in-law it's all cool ......... Wink

At the end of the day, if you're a good customer, your LBS will still profit from you servicing your bike and buying all your accessories n supplements from him, so helping you out is in his best interests too. I know my LBS won't hesitate to help me out, even if i don't have the invoice...

Eish BB. I think the frame warranty should be the least of his worries. You own a rocking chair and a shotgun?

Too late mate, I am a grandpa already .............

Nine time out of ten' date=' bicycle insurance is a rip off. Rather get a quote, then sign a debit order for the same amount into a good unit trust. You'll probably be surprised at how quickly you will accumulate enough money to replace your bike. Once you've achieved this amount, you can cancel your debit order. The growth of the unit trust should ensure that your investment keeps pace even with bicycle inflation.

Just don't be like JB and by a sector-specific fund. On July 11 he advised hubbers to buy commodity shares. Since then these shares have lost more than a quarter of their value. [/quote']

aagaggggggg KEK man.....

You save up.........you buy a bike.

If it is worth R100 000.00 then so be it.....that doesn't mean you are "living beyond your means"

.....does this mean I have to have a spare R100k lying around doing f($#*$)#all??

Hell NO!!!

That is why I pay R500 per month insurance.....for them to worry about that.
