Hi all,

A friend of mine is a beginner cyclist and wants to get out onto the road in the mornings. Actually, he's my boss! He stays in Morningside/Sandton and is VERY concerned about the traffic. Are there any recognized routes/groups in the area or shall I just tell him to drive to Kyalami and do his stuff there? He is a rank beginner so would be rather slow but is keen.

Any advice would be appreciated. Smile

Tell him to go to the Engen Classic. If he is as slow as you're making him out to be then he needs to start 20 minutes before the main ride and should finish with the bunch... Embarrassed I'm not sure how many beginner cyclists if any go to the Engen for the morning ride but at least it's regular and there are always people on the routes.

fat chance of that happening!!

there is always a couple of slower groups in the engen classic - this again is not necessarily the last group to leave - especially if andrew is around!

best to start of with the group where the women & children start in and see how it goes from there.

i think that there is also a slower ride starting @ slipstream cycles just a little but further down the road - no too sure about the start times here.  this is a club100 thing if i recall correctly.

on saturday - follow gumpole's advice!

Thanks for the advice so far. Being from Durban i don't have a clue which Engen garage but i think the Club 100 thing sounds a bit more suited to him.

Take it easy,
