A while back we had a topic regarding sponsors for the youth. Everybody seemed to think that it would be a waste of funds save for a few hubbers.

The funds(sponsors) are currently being spent on the older rider ie vets and sub vets.

If we do not sponsor or develop the younger riders or even the junior riders what type of riders will we have in the future and will we even have vets or sub vets to race at the races?

This topic is open to both sides of the coin so go ahead and lets see what you the hubber(cyclist) see for the future of the sport in our country and what type of plan WE can implement in developing the young talent in this country.

Fire away HUBBERS!!!!

Silence..................

My idea of development would be to start at a basic, basic level.

A BMX track with hire bikes. You pay a deposit for a bike, ride 10 circuits of the track. There is a bike wash right there. You return it clean and in good order you get your deposit back.

Dont just give kids money and free gear.

Easy really.

Get schools involved.

helderberg cycle world has a local primary school mtb league. Its aimed at getting the youngsters into cycling from an early age and then identifying talent and nurturing it from there. I think its an excellent idea as it gives the kids an exciting challenge, and generates income for the shop

dirtbreath's idea is right on the money. especially now that we have a very prominent south african BMX'er (who just conveniently happens to be black).

we (as in SA) also needs sponsrs to sponsor relevant prizes at grass roots level for kids getting involved - a bike for the winner, gear (helmet and protective padding etc) for runners up. and rather than medals at this level give them more useful stuff - school satchels, stationary packs etc.

I would tend to agree by getting the schools involved.

Make it a school Sport like rugby , cricket or soccer.

Bmx, track ,Mtb and road.
