Would love to know what happened to some of the guys who seemed to have dropped off the earth.

Also, the guy nailed head on by a car on the drag past the airfield years ago; whatever happened to him?

Shortlegs, are you refering to Andy Lambert? I think he broke his neck in the 'head on' you are refering to? Last I heard he was fine and living in the States.

This incident on saturday...let me be honest here, the guy who got knocked off and subsequently did the klobbering was not small. Not by a long shot! I stopped to assist in the mayhem, but him and 2 mates had it well in hand.

It is bad...and I would have probably gone about it much the same way...

Hmm, I parked at the circus on Sat and rode with a few guys from the circus club who I knew, we went up the steps and turned into Klipriver - we left the Circus at about 7.10am so probably got to the steps at about 7.30am - all was peacefull.

But, this is a bad route, trucks, narrow roads, lots of past issues a few bike jackings if memory serves me correctly, still, violence is not called for whatever the case - "two wrongs never make a right" - one wonders if it was not a case of "bunch bravado" and saving face in front of a crowd, one wonders would he have reacted the same, were he alone - I doubt it.!

Now we have a case of "cyclists beware" in this area because as WW says, maybe somebody takes it out on an innocent fella/ Gal with a gun or a knife. So Sad.

I am not saying what happended to the cyclist was right, but that it was handeled badly, I fear, to all our detriment.

I have to agree with you. Next time that guy will look out for the solitary cyclist for revenge. A vicious circle. Dead

It couldn't have been otherwise Porks.

4(?) pedestrians, 2 in the road, 2 on the kerb walking towards and engaging a large bunch of cyclists, only one outcome regardless of the rights and wrongs.

Not good as you say & I won't rush back to this route.

I understand JL, but theres no need for a quick "beat up session" - lets be realistic, what do the folk from this settlement have to loose by engaging a single cyclist beating them up or worse and stealing whatever he has, - nothing.!!

By now this will be common knowledge, so, I fear there will be repercussions, - everybody is so hostile and aggressive these days, bad, bad, bad for all of us.!!

Porky the thing is this guy reacted out of acceptable civilisation norms...ignoring him would also let them think they can just get away with it and they will continue then!!!

So you kinda in a catch 22!!

Well,....... I dont know................but I dont feel theres ever a need for violence, sometimes taking the higher road and walking away is the right thing to do, but somehow I think bunch bravado and the fear he would look like a sissy in front of his mates, would always prevent this - but ulitmately it would have been the right thing to do - behaving poorly is not only the realm of the impoverished it seems.!

Would the guy have hit the cyclist if he was alone? The bunch bravado started on his side.

If he did it this time, and the high road was taken, it is almost certain he would have done it again. After a little lesson, I doubt he would do it again. BUT, as you point out, it could cause a greater repercussion later.

I am just wondering what anybody got out of this?

Viloence begets violence, what the pedestrians did was wrong, but what the cyclists did was equally wrong, it was no more than "revenge"..... but then, 100 cyclists and 4 pedestrians,.............Hmmm, I guess they felt their lives were in mortal danger.!

WW, I would not have thought you would have approved of such revenge tactics?

For those of you thinking is it right or wrong, (forget bunch bravado etc), if I get  hit for no reason whether you are drunk, stoned etc "I aint gonna walk away".

(If I was to hit YOU for no reason and get away with it I would try my LUCK again but if YOU were to sort me out I would think twice - don't know if that is how these guys think though)

Its not an easy one,

Having watched the whole thing go down in front of us, its not that straight forward. there was some high five looking gestures, but the impact was solid. I cannot conclude on the intention of the pedestrian. Discussed this with WW afterward, and we could not conclude.

The cyclist really went down hard, and probably was just aware of the impact, and not what happened.

It was a catch 22, and the situation got out of hand. The other riders were very emotional, one was the father of the guy who was taken down.

All I can say is, the guys should not have been in the middle of the road in the first place, they were on both sides, and bottom line is, event or no event, the route is bad.

There was a black Audi just after that who nearly took out a young lady, must have been doing at least 140, blowing their hooter, and coming within centimetres of the rider. Its just a no-go. Particularly now with the threat of revenge.

Yes, bad area to ride, I think.

I obviously wasnt there Mighty Spoke, but my feeling is, as you say it got out of control. This usually happens when there are a lot of people around, mainly due to ego and the safety of the "pack", - people on their own seldom drop to this level as they are not in the position to prove themselves in front of others, and alone, they are vulnerable, - one of the very reasons why crowds go quickly out of control, but small gatherings seldom do, there is a "proper" name for it, but it eludes me now.

Well, I never "loved" the route, but it looks like I wont be popping in to the circus coffee shop much, as I wont be on this route much now.

Widget I certainly don't agree with what the guys did but all I say is either way the outcome seems to be negative.....

If it was me of course I would have left it but is that just because I'm female???

All I'm saying is that it gets very sad when society breaks down.....What can I as a mere  mortal do about it....??????

I'll avoid the area...sad but true!!
