@singletrackmind: My major problem was everyone else using 34's in front of me would shift into their grannies about 5m out from the start of the hills and slow down to a crawl. I couldn't get any speed or momentum going to carry thru.  There were a couple of hills I had to hike-a-bike the latter parts as I couldn't keep a slow enough pace without a MTB cog.

Exactly BB

Before I did all my own bike stuff a 'mechanic' at a bikeshop asked me why it mattered where he put the logo on my tyres and I said it doesn't but it does show me that the oke working on my bike cares .........

But what if I've got 3 labels on the rim and 2 on the tyre?

Yip....it's called 'attention to detail'. Some people just don't have it.

Mamparra where did you get that frame???

It was a plain white one that I got from martelpypie. Cycleart tried to paint it to my specs.

@CaptainDura: I didn't keep exact track but got some great deals on the frame and parts (half the local price for the fork) so I'd put total spend at around 20-25k (much more with the recently tanked Rand though).  Replacement value would be far greater I fear...

@Dirtbreath: Nope - just managed to buy it in mint condition.  A little pledge and elbow grease and it shines like new.

My Scalpel weighs 10.2kg, before I upgraded the brakes and grips, so around 10kg now.

Frame, R3k

Fork, R3k

Groupset, R3k

Wheels, R3k.

Misc, maybe another R2-3k

So maybe R15k invested. Obviously before the Ront saw its @ss.

Nice ride. A tip on polishing those cast ali bits. Use car oil to lube your chain and then clean the ali bits with the cloth that you wipe the excess oil off you chain with. Nice n shiny!

Post it on Yetifan!
