Does anyone have road experience cycling the routes around Sabie?  I would like to ride R37 over <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Long Tom Pass and ride between Sabie and Graskop on R532.  I am planning to ride early Saturday and Sunday morning, hopefully avoiding truck traffic.  Thanks for suggestions and input.

You should be fine, only problem you may encounter this time of the year is mist, visibility low, wouldnt recomend riding in the mist.If you have never ridden in this area prepare for a couple of tough days in the saddle, the road always seems to be going up,tough but very rewarding .

should be ok, but just make sure that if the worst comes to the worst you crawl/get dragged to the Graskop "jurisdiction"... the Sabie clinic has NO facilities - no xray equipment, no dispensary for pain meds, no vending machine for peeps waiting for news about the patient, etc. I could give a full run-down on the atrocious conditions those poor staff have to work in but suffice it to say if i ever need medical assistanc eout that way i'll crawl the whole friggin way to nelspruit before i climb into the Sabie ambulance, and that says something seeing as the Nelspruit docs scr3wed up big time too.

sorry to be a "downer" on this thread but experience taught a couple of us a serious lesson

just ride safe please, whatever you do, cos help is NOT close at hand.

The motorist on these roads are actually quite tolerant, i have never experieced any problems, you migth want to ride from sabie to hazyview to graskop via kowyns pass and back to sabie again, awesume ride about 115km and its got one or two little bumps.Big%20smile

Did a 6 day tour from Nelspruit via Sabie, Lydenburg, Graskop, Pilgrims and Hazyview and Back to Nelspruit in April. Hectic climbs, quite a few roadworks, but man, it felt good to klap Long Tom and Robbers Pass. Enjoy it and look out for potholes.

Reviving an old thread: Going to Sabie this weekend, any updates on the safety and road conditions for road cycling around Sabie, Graskop and Hazyview?

Your best and safest bet would be to head towards Hazyview, and then turn south towards Whiteriver on the R537.  Nice climb towards Spitzkop.

The others options will certainly be less safe and the road condition of the Hazyview road was quite bad a while ago.

Longtom is a stunning ride, but the road very narrow.

The best bet is to look on strava with the segments to see which ones are riden the most

Def the road up to Spitzkop is good

Long Tom Pass is also good

I know the guys ride alot to Graskop van Sabie site. Nice Pancakes as a reward in Graskop

Just stay of the road from Sabie to Hazyview. I drove a year ago and that road and the road conditions is bad. Would love to cycle up from Hazycview site but road is bad
