Gear Cable Outers?

You can drill the cablestops out' date=' you just need to be careful not to damage the frame. It's certainly doable. However, it will make a mess of the frame if you're careless

A dremel is a better tool for the job

No....I don't have patience for a file

I just don't see how you can drill a nice hole parallel with the frame with either a drill or dremel. The drill will bind and will rip something up.  Even if you tape up your frame, the knurled end of the chuck will grind through tape quicker than you can say "damn, I should have listened to good advice"

You can't dril cable stops since the drill's chuck cannot get in there and it makes an awful mess of your frame. Use a needle file and some patience.

Whatever you do' date=' you'll never look back again after this op. Little pieces of cable is a crime against MTBers. One piece is the way to go.

Buy standard Shimano or BBB cable. Poofter cable has no advantage whatsoever.

You are right about the drill chuck getting in the way.  I used my dremill with a drill bit in it.

Get a drill bit with a 90 degree bend !!!

You got one of those? Seen them in the medical journals.Confused

They are on the same page in the catalogue as the torches that can shine around corners.

Interesting topic and I read Cable Cutters at first. Dyslexic I know!!!!!!! I have Giant braided outers with the braided hydr disk pipes. Bling for a MTB!!!!!!

Talking about cable cutters, i read, and have not tried it yet, you burn a brake cable with a lighter untill that portion glows, let it cool and then you can cut it with a nornal sidecutter. The end crimp you put on covers this blackened or blue piece of wire and you do not have to buy expensive cable cutters. Will definitely try it tonite and then email Buycycling and win a pair of Shimano Shoes!!!!!!!!

Welder outta crypton . Donno if this tip will fry . It's gonna take a big lighter to make that cable glow and if I catch u using my lighter u would wish u rather went to the Killarney Crit . Seriaaas , these cutters not only cut the cables but can also crimp the ends very nicely .

I use the shop housing.....I've gone through kms of this stuff. Mamapara always told me to get the XTR ones but I'm a cheapscate.....plus I got parts of the cable that is completely covered so I don't think the XTR would work.....

And now....I need to change the piece that goes to the derailleur......again.....

So yeah it's cheap.....don't know if it will satisfy your need for smooth shifting though

I use XTR cable and the cheaper "buy-by-the-meter" Shimano SIS outers. The shop says it's the same thing and to date, not a single problem. But then again, I've not done any mud baths. The outers are about R20 a meter and you need about 2 meters.
