I beg to differ GoLefty... Raiser bars are easier to wheelie with... Wink

Yes the closer your center of gravity to the rear wheel the better you will wheelie ie move bars and saddle back, loose hips help too,

Wish I could manual, maybe the next life

you wheelie easily because of the position of your Centre of gravity, The same position can be achieved via flat with a different stem.

the riser bar is nothing special.

Problem is that to achieve the same position you'd need a stem with about 15-20 deg rise.

As we all know....only a 0-5 degree stem falls into the 'cool' zone.

Anything more than that is just plain dorky and will lose major cred at

the trailhead!

Thus, to some of us a riser bar is absolutely essential!

I was expecting more from you GL...come on bro! You've been around long enough to know better!

gotta agree. i recently dropped my stem (ie, put the steerer tube spacers on top of it), and still wheelie the same.

I know there was a rant by Keith Bontrager about why he doesn't like riser bars, guess he changed his views as he sells them, 'Well they put his name on them' anyway prob needs to pay an installment on his Porsche.  I digress

15-20 deg rise stems look KUK get a riser bar, another thing to consider if going carbon , you gonna have to get a good quality stem like a thompson as they have chamfer as to not cut into the bar, while you are at it get a Torque wrench, as not to put too much stress on carbon!

save yourself a whole lot of trouble, stress, money and pain, get a easton EA 70 monkey light ali. It will weigh about 100grams more than carbon, and your wallet will still be twice as heavy.

Longer steerer tube with more carbon or HopeSpacers will make up for that.. ;)

I've moved them up, moved them down, ridden a bike with a riser stem (someone else's), had bar ends on the straight and the riser but still can't wheelie. Just maybe the problem is not with the ......... Confused

Hi

I need help, which over sized MTB riser bars are considered the best    used with a Thompson stem?

I am aware the answers will be subjective..

I would like the Hubbers opinions

Hi Newby0007 - as you can see the subjective takes over after a while....but simple truths remain:
  • Aluminium generally bends!
  • Carbon generally snaps!
  • Alumnium generally can take the knocks better...
  • Carbon bars are suppose to flex somewhat - therefore take out a bit of trail buzz
  • Aluminium bar will allow you to take the misses out to dinner afterwards
  • Carbon will reduce you to the "end of the month salticrac snack"
  • And titanium is the considered the wonder metal so why not make a handle bar out of it.....
Handlebars are a personal thing, i.e. its got to feel right not just look the muts nuts. There are so many brands out there, Raceface, Funn, Easton, Bontrager, Answer-and those are just the known brands.

I ride ali 710 Raceface non-oversize on the full-suss and a no-name on the ss, neither have bust or bent, i have stacked plenty, and quite frankly they just let me hang on when my bike decides to steer....

Good out and get one that works for you mate, and don't forget to hang on!!!

Did a pricing exercise recently (within the last month) on the KCNC riser bars... Contacted a few stores to get pricing on a couple of items.., with the KCNC riser bars being one of those items...

The KCNC Rampant 6061 1" Rise O/S bar was priced in the region of R300.00 exc. and the KCNC Darkside 7075 1" Rise bar was priced in the region of R430.00 exc.

Hope this helps...
