Should you wish to send a letter of condolences to Velda (wife) and the family you are more than welcome to send it to me on clubct at cyclelab dot com.

I will make sure Velda recieves all letters.

Fair enough;BUT concern will not provide for his wife and kids;now he is gone;i think it would be pertinant to organise some form of fund for his close familly. This tradgedy has hit home mainly because we can all associate ourselves with the circumstances;also what about some kind of memorial banner on thehub,so cyclists killed by errant drivers will not be forgotten. mannic

Seems a man handed himself over regarding the incident.

Indeed! It's a brave man who hands himself to the authorities only once his blood alcohol levels have returned to normal! Bloody bastard! He will, in all probability, like most South African murderers, get a 'slap on the wrist'! But, never fear! Justice WILL be done!Angry

Okay, we are all disgusted now lets do something about this, it could have been any one of us.

A court protest and a Cycale lab initiated family fund should be minimum and those that witnessed please get hold of Detective Fouche (above).

Anyone know the court date to arrange mass action and can someone from Cyclelab management indicate if they will set up and administer a fund?

Okay so if everyone is serious about putting a court protest together I can organise that there is media present so that this gets press attention. Attention needs to be drawn to the protesters, i.e. all wearing cycling tops and "tasteful" banners. However it will be pointless if 2 or 3 people rock up and do this, it needs to be done with numbers both inside and outside the court but could take awhile due to the fact that there is no real scheduling of cases during the day so you never know what time the hearing is going to happen.

Additionally, the prosecutors that are generally overworked/underpaid/disinterested etc so if there is someone on the HUB is/knows/is related to a lawyer that knows the law and can push the prosecutor in the correct direction with the correct charges etc then that would help.

This thing can be taken to the "enth" degree if everyone wants but it is going to take commitment from a lot of people to make an example and possibly to the end of maybe getting laws changed to protect cyclists.

Also it would help if our friends at the PPA/CSA got involved and backed this.

However, if we are going to do this then with respect for Chris and his family it should be done with their consent.

Pls PM me if anyone is interested in persuing this.

I don't want to stirr (!!) but what would a fund do for the family?  (Unless they need help with legal fees to lock the wanker car driver up, which isn't the case yet)

the cycling community can always institute a civil case the driver, one Morne Jones of Simons Town.

As a community we have a lot of clout and unlimited funds.

Its harde to change the law than it is too sue him in civil court.

This will br ing more attention to the plight of cyclists and if we win, set a precedent.

This is where our CSA, or PPA organisations could actually rise to the occasion and do SOMETHING.
