Got the forecast from here:

What, looking forward to being cold. (oh wait, you have an eskimo suit and I should have your mask for you tomorrow morning.)

I'm still trying to get the price. Go figure.

Right, at least this is one morning ride this week that will not be a wet one (as in no rain.)

Osman, Hamsters wont do it. The Hamsters against explotation union will send their henchmen to chew your tyres. You need something a little stonger, like an Ox or two.

just use yourself Ox, less risk, higher fitness level, bigger thighs & calves, you can start shaving, and women will fall over their feet (oops , sorry, just remembered, they already do)

I thought you go 'under cover' in your skiing outfits precisely to prevent the above from happening?

Why would I wanna be that foolish?

Dunno, maybe saving all the damsels in distress is interfering with your training time... making those bulging calves and thighs disappear ... causing less ladies to fall over their feet (off their bicycles...)

Or is that why you go out training in the dark now?

More seriously ...

Trubie I need some help here wrt to winter clothing. the plan is to go buy a long sleeve top/something this afternoon. Is there anything specific I have to look out for? Any pointers, eg things that do not work, are great

Looking at a single layer thing, if it get too cold later on I'm thinking of using a First Ascent fleece pullover as an inner layer.. So I'm basically looking at something to use as a replacement for a short cycling TOP, or is that the wrong way to go?

What to use for the legs? what is different from the cycling longs (I assume they(CYCLING LONGS) are just worn over normal cycling shorts) from long running tights?

PS: I am not particularly fond of arm/leg warmers...

Ox, my topics menu bar is not active

I cannot search, but do a search for winter kit/clothing which was posted in the last week, I posted what I prefer on there.

But

the NB thing is to dress in layers

if it becomes warmer, as it almost always does at this time of year, you can be too hot and then it becomes uncomfortable. The key is to be comfortable and not to cool down too much as it may cause you to get colds etc.

Arm & leg warmers are certainly the way to go, the long bibs are normally very warm and do not have a chamois, unless you buy one with a chamois which is lank expensive.

I think you need a windjammer (sleeveless jacket), which you can wear over a shirt (long/short sleeve), its light and folds up small enough to go into a pocket if you get too warm. But it protects the chest area from the wind/cold, and is a good investment. I use a longsleeve lightweight jacket on colder days, and a winter jacket when its really cold, All this over my short sleeved shirt over a vest/tshirt (thermal works best, but cost money?)

For the legs the warmers work well for same reasons, can fold away small enough to go into pocket.

for the feet toecaps are cheap and easy, overshoes work well when its reaaaly cold like tmrw morning!!

Ox. Consider it done dude.

I can recomend a pair of thermal lycra bib tights, full lenght and thermal arm warmers. You can save yourself a trip to LBS and pick them up tomorrow Am before we head out. (I will have them at my place.)

The thermal tights were R850 at Cajees. I can get them for you for about R450. Arm warmers are about R250 for thermal. Maybe a bit less for the ar warmers, I need to get the price for you but they are also cheaper than any of the LBS I have been to.

Slave, I'll have a look at the thights, but the arm warmers are a definate no-no coz the stuff just look like carp to me, and I cannot be convinced they seal properly at the top

Posted

Trust me dude. I have seen them and they work.

Based on your last reply and chat with Tubs (Trubie.) I have also made sure to get leg warmers as well.

Arm warmers work if you need to take layers off. (Not that I see that happening in Winter. When it gets cold, then everything is probably going to stay on. Unless we ride in the middle of the day and then there will still be some very cold days. (You know those days when softies like me stick around at home and feign deadly illness and allergies to anything remotely connected to exercise.

Ox

The armwarmers work, its good for the colder summer days also buddy.

They seal perfectly.

You just put them on first, your shirt sleeves covers the top of the warmer, which is under the sleeve, so no probleimsh.

It also has elastic, similar to running tights, which keeps it in place at the top, same with the leg warmers. Try it, you wont be sorry.

About the looks - who the f@#$ cares what you look like.

I'll rather look dof, than be cold.
