Slave...glad to hear you have joined the rest of us in the 1990's with the acquisition of clipless pedals!! You will see a big difference...especially on longer rides where you wont be as fatigued because of the energy efficient platform your foot now rests on! Better power delivery, more power on the upstroke and of course the benefit of the "Body Geometry" soles of those Specialized shoes! (which according to some scientists actually help lower your heart rate?! Whatever...)

Glad to see the guys are still braving the cold...I'm secretly hoping the departure time from Xumbugs will be moved to later very soon! Do "the powers that be" know when this is likely to happen?

Thats just not acceptable WW...ask your TCS big boys to use some persuasion tactics so that we can depart a little later and warmer....

You do realise they all live in the wrong city. I'm the only one in da souf....gets quite lonely sometimessmiley36.gifsmiley36.gifsmiley36.gif

Hmmm' date=' maybe I can twist an arm or two of some of the other boytjies[img']https://assets.bikehub.co.za/legacy_images/smilies/smiley4.gif[/img]

It wasn't that cold yesterday?? Or are you getting soft in your old age??

Thanks GO, but we have advanced to 2009 now and I have only just arrived in the 90's. Eish, talk about late.smiley13.gif

Some inventions are however, usually money making schemes and to make back the bucks on the original idea, they sell us a whole bunch of mumbo jumbo to confuse us into "believing" the gab. Some however are pretty good.

I think the only way really to get to the truth of the matter is to speak to someone who has had experience of both systems. Preferably someone whose opninion is unbiased.

I may be in such a position once I come to fully appreciate just what the new shoes and cleats are actually capable of WRT effiency, less fatigue etc.

I recall there bing some very fancy road running shoes way back and one pair I got suckered into, were useless in reality so forgive me for being a little cynical.

So, still a few more weeks of freezing before they kick off at a more civilised time.

Maybe we need to arrange our own rides for later and ignore the bunches for now.

Any seconds on that motion?

WW...I was soft in my youth! I'm allergic to the cold! (strange for someone born in the northernmost region of the UK!)

The problem for me is that I hate being cold...and I have some mean cycling kit to combat the cold...but the temperature varies so much between 7am and 10-30am that the kit becomes more of a hinderance than  help.

Oh, yeah I forgot your the only TCS'er that lives down here. I'd rather ride later than suffer 15 different temperature changes....

Hey Trubie! Dude...you seem to spend all day on the Hub!?!?

Whats with that?

Are you doing provincials this weekend?

No, just half the day, other time split between riding, resting, sleeping, family

Somedays in this profession, just nothing happening.

And besides that, it takes me 2 min to catch up, type and post, so no prob

My club is in Heidelberg, so our prov was the weekend of 18/19 Apr.

Not there yet Owl, not yet.

Maybe I will get a racing lic next year and go do prov for some ego denting.

I first need to get ahead of Slave & his cronies?

U doing TT & RR?

Dude...I'm not doing the TT. Hoping to do the road race though...just going to see how the rest of the week goes.

So you did your provincials almost a month ago? Heidelberg, what province does that fall under? How did it go?

Slave, I started on clips as well and believe me...there is a big difference. Maybe not necessarily in performance but in comfort, easier to get foot in and out, easier to get a better pedal stroke. Just the little things have made a difference to me.

This is a good invention, especially on the MTBsmiley4.gif So much easier to control the bike!!

How can Trubie be your coach. He probably knows less than you smiley2.gif

Finally - after 200 pages' date=' someone has seen the light and has started talking some sense

WW well done!

As K@Kpraart siekte was, was jy lankal dood. (Translation: "if talking crud was a disease, you would have died a loooooong time ago.")

I won't let on just how much of "nothing you do know" because you may get inundated with questions.

WW, the man can lie with a strait face? (Rephrase: Handle the truth a little less than carefully.)smiley36.gif

Most people know more about cycling than I do. I just know how the bike works and can pull them apart and put them back together again (and the bonus, they work after i'm done with them.)smiley4.gif

Good techie, not so good rider (despite what Trubie says.)smiley17.gifsmiley19.gif

Slave...Its a funny thing really, because on the track I swear by toe clips. But they have to be the old Shimano Dura ace pedals with the extra little clip and double straps...but with proper cycling shoes. Thats the ideal for the track, coz you aint coming out of those in a hurry.

When I did the provincials on the track in March I was too scared to get out of my saddle because I was using TIME pedals! I just did not feel safe in them on the track!

But on the road its a different story. Your biggest noticable improvement will come in the form of your feet feeling more rested. You wont spend a lot of time trying to find a comfy spot for your feet, coz the pedals will already have you in the position you want.

Your having to lift the saddle is due to the fact that you have added a piece of plastic between your foot and the pedal!

Trubie...I didnt know Heidelberg was under Gauteng South. Its all good. TT's are too much hard work for my liking as well! Take me to the line and let me sprint any day!

GOv2.0. I rest my case WRT footware. Now I'm more foncused than ever. (Don't worry bud, it seems to be a permannent state with me.)

Most people think I smile because I'm happy. Crud, I smile because I have no clue what's going on!

I remember you stressing about your shoes and clips and all that stuff at the track. Sometimes, I think humans invent sh!t to worry about so we always have something to do.
