Luckily my bike has a maintenance plan...hence no need to drop off at S2L!

As for the tow rope idea...Hmmmm

GO, we don't need to tell anybody.

S2L is out doing his secret training on all the hils in the south.

This' date=' I have to see. Nance, you in for Saturday?

Honestly S2L, I'm not completely confident that I'll be able to keep up, I'm also a nervous road rider and don't want to be the cause of a crash smiley9.gifsmiley9.gif, so I might just go mtb'ing instead.

Maybe next time you guys do the short loop again.

New day, new opportunities.

Kid, I went out and did some "top secret hill training" yesterday after work.

Went out on JG Strydom (south) to Klipriver. Then we do Swartkoppies (AKA Main), up the Lido hill to Columbine Ave along to Klipriver and then all the way back to JG Strydom and home. (oops Training secret's out.)

I felt really good and strong on those hills yesterday and it was a great ride. Took around 8 or 9 minutes off my previous best time for that route. Thusday, we do that loop in reverse. And that is about the sum total of my top secret training.

What is going to be secret is all the energy gels and goos I'll be consuming come Saturday. (Oops, The race nitrition cat just escaped.)

"k so the plan is this. Dash and OS will run interferance (much boxing in and shoulder and head bashin with GOv2 point oh) while you and I make good our escape up the steps. (Oh bugger, just let the secret tactics out the bag too. )

Spaso version 9, you also need to run some interferance there dude. You're like 16 foot 40 and I doubt the old wise bird will wanna tangle with you. Dudes, I need all the help I can get plus a miracle or six.

All the friendly (who says it's friendly) rivalry and "banter" has me really looking forward to the ride.

Nance, the 80 k loop is a walk in the park. Really it is. In reality, the ride won't be that frenetic. GO is actaully a very considerate rider and will make sure that everyone is safe and comfortable on the ride. (This is true and I,m still a little mystified as to why he stirred things up the last time we rode and I got dropped. In hs defence, your honour, he did phone me to find out if I was OK.) smiley17.gif

'sides, if Dash is with us, we gonna crawl along at a snails pace. Os, the kid and Spaso will be going hell for handle bar tape and I'll be taking it easy bringing up the rear. I'll need to rest and conserve energy to live up to this rep that the old wise bird has created for me. That plus the fact that coaxing a heavy steel bike up the steps is not easy.

So Wrighte, Obelix and others, when you gonna joing the crazy bunch? To avoid confusion, I will be meeting with the Ox at FNB Bracken city. That way, there are only two or three of us and we are easily indetifyable as opposed to trying to pick us out of that big bunch of hooglian cyclists that meet at Xumbugs

You make me laugh dude! Seriously!

C'mon Wrighte...just ditch a poker or 2 and come ride...

S2L...by my calculations...you should have that JG Strydom, Lido hill loop down to like 11minutes by now? Didnt you take 8-9minutes off last week?!

But thats a hard climb that Lido hill to SouthGate...used to do it every night with Albion Wheelers when I was under 15...I still hate riding that hill...especially going to the gates of the quarry. That sucks big time!

Sounds like we're gonna have a good laugh on saturday...we just need to assure Nancy that everything will be A OK and that she need not worry. (Think I may have scared her yesterday)

So its a mountain(more like incline) showdown on the steps on saturday huh? Cr@p...I'm nervous now...

Nancy, how / where else are you going to practice your group riding skills? Surely not in the World Fun Riding Championships come November? Then you want to be comfy rubbing shoulders at max speed. This here is the perfect opportunity!

Slave, I've removed all non-metal parts from the structural portions of the bike, so she steers true and directly... I promise I'll look less like a 5 year old on his first day without training wheels this time!

Maybe I should put the previous MTB cassette (is only a few months old and was swopped for something with more gears) on the road bike - both 8speed going down to 11 teeth) Hopefully that should get rid of the shifty phantom...

Fortunately we're doing this Sat and not Sun, and we will not have to chase the bunch to the stepssmiley2.gif, so we can give it sticks up the steps smiley16.gif

Running interference.... smiley24.gif Anybody here that played gridiron? I need some protective padding please. Have the tights (cycling shorts) already

Oh wise one, you, nervous? Right. If you nervous dude, I'm the next in line to become King of England. (After I progress form prince of the steps.)

Dude, that Lido hill is a toughie and then to do Columbine on top of that really works the legs. If only I was as fast as you think. Last time I did that loop, it took 1 hour 44 minutes. Yesterday, 1 hour 37. One day, I'll get either brave or stupid and try to ride up to the quary. I worry about the trucks there so I have never given it a bash. That Lido hill up to Soutgate is a smidgen over 4 k's with a vertical climb of about 184 meters. What makes it one of the tougher hills is that it gets steeper towrds the top. The first two, three k's is fairly gentle gradient and then it kicks in with that last little steep bit when the legs are good and blown.

Even butchers is not so bad. Like almost everyone I know shudders with fear when you mention butchers hill. I have ridden that Lido hill plenty and done butchers a fair few time too. Between the two of them, only the lido has the gradient to strike terror and fear into me. Even the Lido going towards Walkerville is not as bad.

Hey Nance. It will all be OK. Join us, it will be a fun ride. We will all look after you.

Wonder Woman seems to be very quiet lately. Any chance we can get her into our little band of renegade riders?

Anyway, it's good to start a day with a chuckle or two.

Have a great one all of ya. Cycle safely and try not to p1ss off the motorists.

Busted! I actually did shoot out to do some training!

Whadda ya wanna know about my secret training?! Huh huh?! Er- only everything.

BB' date=' I was saying earlier in this thread that its great that its all cycling related. Its a thread about a bunch of guys (and a gal) excited about riding their bikes. What more could you ask for?

However...I am worried that the Kid, S2L, Spaso and the newly recruited Agteros are planning a coup de tat on saturday when we hit the steps! First one to the top wins a Bar One?! [img']https://assets.bikehub.co.za/legacy_images/smilies/smiley19.gif[/img] I thought your bike was the prize dude.smiley17.gif Or a weeks supply of toilet papaer (for all the cr@p we been spewing)

Oh, Dash is keen...and will be meeting me at my place before we leave for the "SATURDAY SLAM" PROUDLY BROUGHT TO YOU BY "Bar one - for a 25 hour ride.

Dash - Dude. Just a friendly reminder. This is an early morning ride, but like you still have to EAT.

Well.... the gang seem to be fairly accommodating so maybe' date=' just maybe I'll be there.

Oxman, are you sure you want me practicing in your bunch?! [img']https://assets.bikehub.co.za/legacy_images/smilies/smiley4.gif[/img]smiley2.gif

Grey - when did you ride the hill with Albion wheelers, way back when in the starting days of the club, I was involved, Mike vd Walt, the mountjoy bru's, and the list goes on.

Is this ride you all bragging about on Sat/Sun? Distance

What time, I see at FNB - no chance of any ATM bombings then this weekend, as the FNB atm will be well protected.

I need to get rid of this Argus legs, wanted to do a nice easy 60-80, but seems I wil have father duties with winter sports on Sat morning........

Oh gosh...this is getting serious! How about we just declare a truce?!

Anyway....

S2L...hills I love to hate are as follows,

The 'drag' from Albertsdal (Andries rd) up Hennie Alberts to the Michelle road intersection. Geez that really does take it out of your legs, especially if your doing it at the end of a long ride. Rode to Heidelberg and back in December...and was almost in tears by the time I got to the traffic circle in Meyersdal on my way back!

The 1.2km steep hill 10km outside of Heidelberg...I HATE that hill. I cannot stand that hill!

Silver Ball/Alberton Hill whatever its called? Especially if you start from the Ring road. Thats one of my favourite climbs. Its steep at the start...and just gets worse as you climb! (well, for me anyway!)

Of course, the SBR nature reserve is the best place to climb. I love that climb from the Kareekloof entrance. The very first time I rode there it was in the rain...I didnt know which way I was going becuase of the low cloud and constant drizzle...all I could do was suffer shiver and follow wheels! But its my favourite.

Comaro? Ever been up there? Eish...

Barbara Avenue in Glenvista? Sneeuberg? Ouch...they are bad bad bad!

When I was a junior, we went to Tzaneen to do the Tzaneen Classic race. OMG...Magoebaskloof was insane. In fact on the road leading up to that climb, there is that stretch of road that looks like your on a flat road...but your actually climbing! Its heartbreaking...but its also a killer descent!

Nuwbie?! Hmmm...I used to ride when the guys used to start from the Sharondale Nursery? I remember "Pikkie" I think was his name? The Mountjoy's...Nic White and Ian Martin used to ride as well? This is like 1989/90 I'm talking about!

You used to ride there as well? Thats cool...its wierd how you go all these years in such close proximity and never actually meet! You must come join this mad capped bunch dude...
