This whole thing of longer or shorter cranks is a debate worthy of many pages.

I read up on it somewhere a while ago.

While a longer lever will transfer the same amount of power for a lower amount of energy used, the legs have a longer distance to travel. So one save in one aspect but sacrifices in another.

To be  sure, I cannot say with any conviction that my longer cranks work so well, I can feel the difference, but then again, I would not really want to go back to shorter ones.

I also fail to see that carbon can be any more rigid than steel framed bikes. Bike tyress are inflated hard, so a road bike ride is hard on the body either way.

Slave, those lightweight carbon frames do give a harsh ride. But, where you make up for it is in the long run on those rides. You just carry less weight, and hence stave off fatigue just that little bit longer. The lightweight rigid feel is also great on climbs. The bike picks up pace quicker, and is easier to 'roll' on any terrain.

Trubie...funny thing with those ONDA forks, 15years ago I shattered my hand in a Madison on the track. To this day I only have 30% use of my left hand and its incredibly sensitive. 30minutes into a ride my hand would usually go numb. But, when I moved across to the Pinarello's I could get in a ride of 3hours plus before my hand became sore!

So there is obviously some benefit to the wonky forks!

Kid seems to believe that I am slow. So I propose a race between him and I. Two races. One on a route of my choosing and one on a route of his chosing but both over 50km. Alternatively since his training program culminates in the Wilro Race that can be taken as our race. In the alternative to the other two options we take the total time for all the races that we are both entered for throughtout the year and find the total time after the 94.7? What ideas do the rest of you have?

Ok, so in the other thread Kid wanted a race and for me to name when and where. So Kid, SBR on Sat 10th April 2010 at N3 parking area, you on your Bianchi and I will ride my SL3? You accept?

I'll choose the circuits for you both. One favouring each of you, plus a third and final 'test' against the clock over a standard distance.

Race 1 in the SBR

Race 2 on a flat course around John Bosco

Race 3 TT on the Rand Water Board road.

Winner is the Bee's knee's...loser is a wet blanket.

Speaking of races...I'm starting a criterium series down south. Late afternoons or saturday afternoons so all can enjoy...

Lets face it, the south needs more racing!!

GO2' date=' do you know if veloce cranks come in a 175mm?[/quote']

As far as I know they do. Why?

was looking on CRC and they only have 172.5mm, which is what I currently have on the ciocc. I am wanting to go to 175 as it always feels like I am constantly spinning. So want to give the longer cranks a go and see if I can get more "comfy"

Oh...but the lever on the right hand side of your handlebar can also control the gearing at the rear, enabling the 'spinning' to become more like 'pushing'smiley2.gif

Jokes aside, they might just not have stock. Try calling your local bike shop bud, I'm sure they can source it for you. It may cost a bit more, but at least it will be the correct size!

Ok, GreyOwl2.0 is logging off! Cheers terry!

Let me just clarify a small detail. I said your bike looks slow never said anything about you. You being a law man you should know that it's all about the details.

We can race, no problem as long as the winner waits and while he waits he orders milkshakes.

Will that be one lap around SBR or two ?
