I see all the K@K praat is carrying on today..... good stuff.

S2L, every week you do you Lido - Southgate route you come back and say you've taken 9 or so minutes off the previous week - are you sure the battery in the cycling computer isn't flat & its just reading slower ???

Otherwise you starting to fly - (what have you been smoking lately ?)

I can see that this is going to be a lonely ride for me, GO rides at the speed of light, S2L with all his secret training is starting to fly, and then there's the freaken group that ride at about 50km/h.

I need a secret weapon.....smiley15.gif

Yeah Dash.

Looking forward to seeing you again mate. I'm looking forward to a great ride on Saturday. (I think I'm going to take a few tins of Red Bull along for the ride. Get me some wings and fly up those steps.)

Pity it doesn't work for me.

Anyhow I digress, looks like we have a good crowd of peeps and it's going to be fun.

I love the sound of bike tyres and drive trains in the early morning. There's something about that sound that works for me. Not quite the same way that the sound of a perfectly tuned F1 sounds at full throttle down the main straight, but the sound of many bike tyres just has a certain quality about it.

Nance.... I kinda like want to do a few duathlons in the next while and most of 'em are the road type. I can like also want to do the World Funride Championships at the end of the year. Need to do a few road races before the winter to hopefully get a semi-decent seeding for the World Funride Championships. Wintertime will be the MTB season for me!

Ooohhh and I have a secret MTB training partner smiley4.gif

Hmmm...Kid, I ride on EPO. (one Extremely P!$$ed Owl!)

Joking people...before this turns into a drug/abuse issue.

Kid, I'll bet your out doing your secret training as well...but just keeping it on the 'down low' from us all!

Oh, and I agree...S2L must be using a faulty cateye if its always going faster! (mind you, mine was faulty last week...did 60km in under an hour! Frigging impressive...but somehow the Garmin read it wrong...or NASA are stuffing with my head)

Nuwbie?! Hmmm...I used to ride when the guys used to start from the Sharondale Nursery? I remember "Pikkie" I think was his name? The Mountjoy's...Nic White and Ian Martin used to ride as well? This is like 1989/90 I'm talking about!

You used to ride there as well? Thats cool...its wierd how you go all these years in such close proximity and never actually meet! You must come join this mad capped bunch dude...

I was at varsity from 86- 89 in Potch, so did not ride those Sharondale rides too often, during 89, I did post grad, at Tuks, stayed in Alberton, so trained a lot with Ian M, and Pikkie yes. He was Mike's son. There are others also but I forget the names, Wendell Bole , the guy with the shop at Rietvlei was also involved as sponsor - Budget Sales.... Still remember the first time Nic's mom dropped him of for a ride with us,we joke about it often. Jislaaik if only I did not stop cycling for nearly 20 years, this training thing would have been a breeze man. I did the Argus in 1990, and now again????

Im sure we know each other , even if only from riding together on heavy steel bikes , with 12/14 gears!!!!

So can I buy EPO at Pick n Pay, if so I'll buy some today.

No secrect training for me, I spin on a Wed & Fri and the other week days I do weights. At the moment I just want to get rid of the fat I put on in December. I figure the lighter I am the faster I'll be.

I think I'm going to hide behind Spaso9 on Saturday, no wind resistance - then if he pop's I'll hind behind S2L and I should finish the race ride just behind GOv2.

Whoa...wierd Nuwbie! I'll recognise you I am sure...coz I remember Nic being dropped off by his mum in that white Mazda! Yeah...pity you stopped for 20years dude...and I still have one or 2 of those old 12/14clusters!! As well as a steel frame or 2!

Mike Van Der Walt opened a shop in the Stax centre for a while? He also put on a criterium around the Boulevard...which I won!! Ah, good memories dude! You gotta come and ride with us!

Indigo...just look inside yourself dude...find your inner EPO and you'll fly like an eagle! If you wanna lose weight fast...cycle in a diving suit...you'll drop kilo's fast from sweating!!

Os. No secrets here dude, thay have a way of getting out of the bag, specially when I'm around.smiley15.gif

Nuwbie Chris Mountjoy is my neighbour. We (the bacward Ox, prob'ly the Kid and I (maybe a few others as well) are meeting at FNB at about 6:45 to leave and go to the main meet at xumbugs. You are welcome to join. Ride will be about 80 k's. AFAIK, Walkerville, Boscos, Circus, Steps and home again. Who knows? It's all subject to change anyway.

Nance, I agree with with wise bird fella. The ride will be great. (psst. I need someone in the group to slow stuff down a bit to conserve energy for that frenetic dash up the steps.)

GO, your route to the meeting is as follows. Go up Bellairs (another of those pretty tough climbs I do regularly), go right at the Engen along into Vorster and up to Klipriver. From there you may proceed down to the meeting place and that should make you just a leeedle tired so that I have a microscopic advantage going up the steps.

I been on that Heidelberg loop twice in the past month or so. I recall the hill but I have good recollections of it. On my first effort (during the ride 4 sight) there was a tandem that came past me going up that hill. The frame on that thing was gorgeous and just the motivation I needed to get a hurry up going up that hill.

Second time, I just put my head down and remembered the tandem frame and went for it again.

That hill going out of Heidelberg up to the highway, (past where Heidelberg kloof used to be) is nasty. Both times I been up there, I have managed to fall off the road. (Long story, don't go there)

Yep, Voortrekker up to steeldale and Silver ball is hell. That is one nasty climb (two nasty climbs actually). Another tough climb is Outspan road in South hills. It also takes you up towards the silver ball.

Come to think of it, the south is full of some very wicked hills. Glenvista, eish. When you turn right off bellairs and go up to the top of Sneeuberg. Short, but very nasty. Climbing from Klip river up Bellairs towards the checkers centre is also fair ugly.

Most of the climbs you have mentioned are far worse than the steps. Seiously, what is it about the steps that makes us fear it so much?

Its a combination of things Slave...the fact its the last climb on the ride. The energy sapping drag...

The ever present danger of being shot/stabbed or mugged passing the squatter camp...

Its our "L Alpe D Huez"...our place of pilgrimage for a saturday morning!

Gotta go and do some training now...get you guys later...

S2L - yes we taught those buggers well, diff is they kept on riding, and rode pro/semi pro for a couple of seasons. If only we could turn back time !!!!!

GO - I remember that crit around the ringroad - I did not fin it the time I did it, but it was great fun.

Is this meeting at FNB going to be a regular thing now?

I wil join on Sat whenever possible, but have to start much earlier on Sundays. I would prob go join the 5:15 ride on Sat then

I can be at FNB (or where ever) every 2nd Saturday at best during school terms, and more regularly during the holidays

5:15 on Sat? and then at 07:00 AGAIN? smiley3.gif

Nuwbie. Never thought to make the meet at FNB a regular thing. It was just a bt of a concessionary thing to meet the Oxman at a place where we could identify each other initially. It is somewhere for him to park his car and then we all ride together to the main meet at Xumbugs.

I'm feeling rather stoked right now becauseI initially started this thread to meet other cyclists as I got tired of riding alone. I have met some great people through it and seem to have brought old friends together as well. Big BONUS.

We can actually make it a regular meeting place and start our own group if we get enough peeps together. Depends on how everyone feels.

5:15 with winter coming along? Too dark, too cold. *Yeah, it's a bitching thing being a big softie.*

OS, you feeling strong ?

2 x group rides, one at 5:15 & another at 7:00 ??

That might be a good idea for GOv2.
