That is exactly what the one Supersport commentator, John Barnes, said. Germany play as a team no matter who they are playing against. England change how they play depending on who is on the field. When Klose was out due to his suspension the Germans played the same way as normal. Germany itself is the star, they don't have Messi's or Rooney's or Ronaldo's who all want to be the Star player and win the games by themselves.

TdF yesterday was fantastic! Pleased that Andy managed to gain some time. Pity about Frank though.

Now I can't wait to ride on the cobbles!!!!!

Cadel rode fantastically yesterday! He is the best of the main guys so far. If he can keep it up he has a chance. He must just try give away too much time in the mountains.

I hope you guys are all riding instead of sitting in front of the TV!!!

To step away from the foosball, getting back to the training... I've only been a bike once since the Nissan MTB event in Walkerville at which time I did a VERY slow 32km (nearly 3 hours!). I have however been running a bit more than usual and must say that I enjoy it quite a bit. Hopefully the next time I'm on a bike (MTB again) I'll still know which side goes onto the ground  :D

Well done Kieran. Now you have no more excuses for not riding.

And so it seems that Octopus Paul, knows what's what.

Spain beat some team that were impersonating Germany ast night but it didn't look like any German team I ahev ever seen. The players had an awesome resemblance, the clothes were spot on, but they played like cr@p.

So I think Germany will beat Urugauy on Saturday, and Spain may beat Holland on Sunday.

BEst I stop aking predictions because clearly, Paul the Octopus is much better at it than me.

This I am fully aware of! :D

Need to get hold of that character who has been down with an upper respiratory tract infection and get him riding too! :D

So pretty B) Finished my baby last night :D A few touches that weren't there before now included :D

Kieran, did you add a small motor maybe ???

Slave, the Germans never had the ball & without the ball you can't score.

The final is going to be another tough game.

Does Octopus Paul make predictions for other teams or just German games ?

Anon, first you didn't like being called OX now you've gone & changed your name to something even longer. So what would you prefer ANON or MOUS ?

Well you've always enjoyed running so I'm sure you having fun doing it. Even one of the other nutters is giving running a go.

I was back on the bike this morning after being out of action with the flu. It felt ok & likely the racing snake (you know who you are) took it easy (Thanks) so I managed to hang on.

My HR was rather high, actually too high for my liking and the legs are a little EINA.

Andy, dude you can now change your signature. Germany will have to wait another 4 years.

Obvious Octopus Paul was right & those numbers that somebody worked out were wrong.

Running is a lot tougher than cycling, just ask Zoo! But on that same side of the coin, running also delivers much bigger health & fitness benefits than cycling.

You guys should all try it, and forget about the bicycles, coz it is not about the bike ;)

Oh and you can just stay with Anon(yMous), if you have a problem... well, just pronounce it like Maximus :D

Ahh, so we have a sneak in the Hub now. If it were not for Kids post, I would not have know who you are. (To be sure, I am still a little confused.)

So Mighty Maximus, (Another strong person of legionary fame from the days of old when the Romans were a super power) you advocate running as being more beneficial than cycling from a health and fitness perspective?

I used to do road running, and yes, I get more out of a 30 minute run than a 30 minute cycle. It does work better for cardio and general fitness.

However, to find out if it is better all round for the body, just ask my ankles and hips about that. (Oh, and the knees too.)

They might tell a different story. Provided one stays on the bike without falling, cycling is definitely more body / joint friendly.

Slave, research has shown that knee, etc problems are not more prevalent amongst runners than non-runners....

Anycase most aching joints are related to muscle imbalances and weaknesses... but years ago there were not people like biokineticsts around who could identify and fix the causes for all those 'little niggles'.. those were the days when you just had to run through it :o

Hello, just checking in to say - well nothing really.........

I also run, about 25 m every morning to the loo :)

Just imagine running the 25m back to wwherever.. Doubled your running B)

Luckily you have a very big house that your bed is 25m from the bathroom, my bed is only about 5 steps from the bathroom.

Or have you been sleeping in the dog box aka couch ???

Ox. 30 odd years ago, shoes were being designed to absorb impact, and there were different models for different running styles. This was considered some serious science. I had my running shoes recommended by a serious running shop as ooposed to just buying north stars at Dion.

Still, I have bad hips, bad knees and bad ankles from running.

It is said that when one runs, the landing makes your body weight equivalent to three times what it normally is.

So even with some serious gel shoes to absorb shock, there are stil some serious forces at play during a run.

It is little wonder then, that after running approximately 30km a week for close on 10 years, that my knees and hips are shot.

The ankles, no shoes in the world can compensate for. Ankles twist anytime. It is a side effect of running, much like punctures are a side effect of riding. The difference is, I can go buy new tubes. New ankles are not available.

Thanks for the tip though, there is some truth to it, but a lot of other factors come into play.

Having done both, I know I can cycle. I cannot run any more. The body just can't do all that pain. Going forward, I will continue to cycle. I will never run anywhere except for an emergency dash to the loo, or unless I really have no choice.

Given choice, cycling is for me. Besides, technically, a decent pair of road shoes are around R1500 to R2000 these days. After +- 1000 km, they are fit only for gardening. At least bike tyres are not that costly. Around R560 for gator skins will get me around 5000 km. And my knees, hips and ankles can take the "strain".

Dunno, that's like just my take on it.
