Well in about 10 minutes Octopus Paul is make his prediction for the Germany game and then later for the final.

Apparently, the predictions are that Germany will win the world cup.

 

Sorry, that should read Spain. I quite forgot the other night before the game that Spain won the confed cup, so I guess that makes them a reasonable side.

 

Ok, so Paul is predicting that Spain will win over Holland and apparently Germany will be third meaning they will beat Urugauy.

 

I think it's all a red herring and if he gets it wrong, he may end up in a pickle.

Well the Octopus got it right again!! The SA Octopus Jabulani also got it right. Germany played really well and Thomas Muller got the Golden Boot. But Diego Forlan is a really great player!

 

How magical was the Tour stage yesterday? Schleck just nailed them. Great before the rest day. Armstrong is really out of it now. But even before that final climb he was in difficulty so those crashes didn't really make much difference.

The world cup is now officially over. Congrats to Spain for outplaying the cheeseheads. I kinda switched channels after the first 90 minutes plus injury time was over and flipped back during the adds to see the replay of Spains goal.

 

What happened to Holland that they were down to 10? I missed that part.

 

Quite frankly, I was surprised that they had so many on the pitch. What a dirty game with so many fouls on both sides. I counted more from Holland though. One spaniard took a full blooded blow in the chest. I could just feel my ribs hurt from that one.

 

Am still battling with the snots so taking a lift to the office. Been two weeks now since I last rode a bike. Missing it a lot but on a day like today, thanks, but no thanks. This is how I remember winter. Too damn cold to want to do anything at all except stay in bed.

Holland went down to 10 men because the ref had a Spanish shirt one. He gave just about every player except the keeper a yellow and the one a double yellow so it is a red. The ref was really bad and extremely pro-Spain. Just before that goal Holland had a free kick which hit the Spanish wall and went out for what should've been a corner. The blind monkey ref gives a goal kick from which the goal was scored. Really WTF????? When a Spanish player dived a Holland got a yellow card. When a holland player was genuinely fouled then no yellow card. Robben was fouled but didn't go down as he still had a potential scoring opportunity. No foul. If he had gone down then it would've been a straight red to the Spanish. The reffing in the whole World Cup has been nothing short of atrocious.

Andy, the whole game was dirty. There should have been many more yellow cards and some blatant fouls by holland should have got red cards.

 

I think the ref was just blind and stupid, but I cannot say he was pro spain.

 

Like I said, I gave up watching the game after 90 minutes because it was a scrappy, dirty game. Robben commited many fouls he got away with. I thought Spain should have gotten at least one penalty, but then gain, I'm not the ref. It is said tht the ref's decision(good, bad or indifferent) is final. This is why France were in SA and not Ireland.

 

It was by far the worst game of the entire SWC (That I watched.) The playoff on Saturday was very entertaining. But, it's all over now. We can get back to the serious business of working, cycling and watching Bakkies Botha serve out his 9 week ban for dirty play. No more soccer for another 4 years. Yeeeeehaaaaaaaaa.

Finals tend to be rather dull games. The Saturday game was much more entertaining and more attacking play. Both teams had nothing to lose.

 

There is the Champions League (which Bayern will hopefully win this year), Euro 2012 plus all the qualifying for Euro and Brazil 2014. So lots of soccer important soccer. But for now we can focus on a real sport and the Tour de France. At least there are no interfering refs which stop everything every 10 seconds. ;-)
