Hey trubes good to see you around this morning, Looking forward to our next chat.

I made assumption you would be in the bunch hence the reason for not coming over.

Kid: Awesome riding by mini and mini mini and of course you.

Sorry for the break just felt good and was sure a couple of okes would catch us on the last step.

When we got to the top we decided to see if we could ride off the three okes on our wheel and one thing led to the next and we were back at the car.

I am watching those little, and not so little dudes buddy.

Slave: what did you eat this morning boet???

The last thing you said was I will see you around the corner and something or the other about speed humps and you were gone??

You holding out on us?

In Golf they call it a ringer so I am erring towards it if I look at what you type and how you peddle.

Well done and thanks to all for my reintoduction and my daughters introduction into the Xumbucs ride.

Andy:

I might have to do some pushing with my girl up SBR but believe if we can make it round it will be just what the doctor oredered for 94.7.

Its all mental after all

SBR = Tough 94.7 :)

Thanks again all of you and ride safe

I have a minor calf injury so an easier SBR is just what I need. I think if I rode alone I may possibly do more harm than good. And you know how excited I get in the mountains. :D

We must arrange it. If you can do SBR then 94.7 will be a cruise of JHB!

Agteros, Kid isn't quite grandpa yet, at least we hope not! Mini Mini Me is basically Mini Me 2.

Slave, I suggest you leave the Spanish Beef alone. It could get you into serious trouble! Look what it did you your friend AC.

What! There is more than one "Kid"? A whole clutch of wannebe IRONMAN contenders?

Seems like the code word for secret training is 'commuting', and Slave has been doing plenty of that we know .... ;)

SBR is excellent training if you a mountain goat

necessary to ride every now and then, but still a huge evil.

I have only managed 2:13 mins. Very specific power training session. Some lunatics do like it very much - SHAME!!

Sorry I never saw any of you on saturday , sunday managed to pass the corner just before 7, so brief stop to say hi and I was on my horse and gone again. Dont like the group riding - slows me down :)

Easy week coming up, OFM next weekend!!

Oh, and big thanks to scooterboy for the marshalling on saturday. Great job, you make me feel quite safe out there. Couldnt get to greet you, but I was one of 2 okes in Cyclelab kit towards the front part of the bunch on the Nampak Loop.

And if you not a lunatic mountain goat it is even better training than excellent. :D

Why shame if we I like it very much?

because we all have shortcomings, and mistakes.............

just a pity that someone of your stature and age have such a serious one.

Ha-ha all very funny stuff indeed.

Secret training and all. Actually nothing of the sort. I was seriously worried because even though I have been doing a lot of commuting, there have been no intervals or speed drills thrown in while commuting. The objective is to arrive at work feeling fresh enough to actually work and not pass out and be all smelly from sweating out a race to the office. Rides home may have taken on a slightly different complexion from time to time.

No Trubes, I didn't hurt the peeps. Promise. I did manage to hurt myself.

Predictor, when you okes turned left at the rugby club, I decided I didn't want to do the speed bump thing so I went straight. I thought I needed to get the hammer down a bit to make sure I stayed with the bunch. It was windy and I did not want to be out there alone. For some reason I cought up with a batch of the other group who seemed to have fallen back. Then the slow group caught up with us and when we hit that left onto Allewynspoort, there was a group ahead of us. No too big a gap so I felt I needed to get in at least one interval and managed to jump the gap. They were going along at a nice comfortable pace, so I just hung on. Nice small group of about 8 or 9 of us. Travelling along at about 38 or so. Like I said nice and comfy.

I was secretly cr@pping myself that I was not going to be able to hang on all the way and was very concerned about the steps I figured if I stayed with the bunch I got into and got dropped on the steps, at least there would still be another bunch to drop into. Well, that was the plan anyway.

So we got to the bottom of the steps and regrouped. Nice and sedate going up. Only 26 instead of the usual 30. At some stage I was a bit bored so I figured I'd go help out at the front. I managed that for all of about 10 or 20 seconds before I found I had to drop back into the bunch. No doubt I still need to work on some speed and climbing.

All along the Allewynspoort road I realised how much I missed the weekend bunch rides. There is just something about the hiss of skinny over inflated tyres on tar that does something to my psyche. I just love that sound. :D

So got to doing some thinking. Perhaps I need to do this more often. Like every Saturday and Sunday like I did last year. I know it's going to hurt my ears a lot and my ball and chain is not going to like it one bit. But on the other hand, if I have no ball and chain, I can ride when I like. Hmmmm, decisions, decision.

I will have to compile a Benjamin Franklin list and weigh this up very carefully.

Lets see:

The bike never has a headache.

It never complains when I ride another bike.

It doesn't need constant hugs and attention.

I can get on and ride right away. No warm up required.

I don't have to talk to it all day after a ride.

Punctures can be fixed.

It doesn't have nails that need painting, maintenance ect.

On the downsdie, it won't make me coffee in the morning but I plan to get one of those coffee machines that start making coffee at 04h45. (Solves that little matter)

It won't make me grub at night. (OK so I can at least cook macaroni cheese and the odd stew, curry so that solves that one.)

It won't wash the dishes (Ok, a dishwasher will sove that one)

It wont do the laundry. (Yes, there are washing machines, but like they still have to be fed manually and they don't iron.)

So far the advantages of the single life seem to be ahead.

Any comments from the peanut gallery?

@Slave,

You were actually going at 51km/h down Alweynspoort, so you can no longer say that it's too fast for you.

Have no idea where you get 38km/h from.

Then up the steps you actually went for a brake so that you could show the bunch that you are still the KING OF THE STEPS.

See you Saturday.

I think the bunch / hub ride is planned for Sunday dude. At least that was my orginal intention anyway. Oxman was the one who threw Saturday into the mix. All will be revealed later this week. I shall probably ride on Saturday as well. Maybe try out with the faster bunch on the short loop. Then I'll wait at the bottom of the steps and go up with the slow bunch. :)

Making a break on the steps was an unmitigated disaster. I managed to hold the front for a whole 10 or 20 seconds before I had to drop back into the comfort of the bunch. So King of the steps se mo3r. I am not even a prince of the steps. Maybe the ponce of the steps would be a more fitting title. But give me time. I will get there again. Maybe all this slow commuting is giving me good base training.

And where do you get that we were doing 51. That was the max speed we did and only for a short period of time. It was trying to do 54 as a sustainable pace that got me dropped out the back of the pack last time I bitched about being dropped. I used my garmin to track the route and the end average was a mere 26 so perhaps you should check your stats. :P You weren't even in the bunch. Only mini me was there. I recall doing that loop with the slow bunch at an average of 30 and sometimes a little higher. By comparison, yesterday was slow. ;)

But it was still a lekker ride that only necessitated a one-hour nap afterwards.

Hello boys! You guys are making me nervous with all of these fast rides. I doubt i will become a regular but just want to put faces to the names!

Sies slave, how must your wife feel?

Don't worry about the speeds, there are different groups.

You'll easily manage.
