Ah Frosty, yes, that was us dude. Enjoyed meeting ya. Not to sure yet who was who, but on our side the Prince rider is none other than GreyOwl version 2.

Frosty, in the books I read and the movies I watch, Vito is usually some "la familia - type dude who makes offers we can not refuse. (Otherwise you getta the cementa shooz.)

Yeah, I know, I watch too many movies and read too many books. (Well the wrong ones anyway.)

So, you were the dude on my right hand side? I was the one wearing the psychadellic zebra "Look" cycling shirt. It's always lekker meeting newcycling connections and other hubbers.

Thanks for letting us (Nance and I) "ride" in your group dude. It as a cool ride. I live out that way so those routes are my usual haunt.

Maybe for a change of scenery, we should hook up for a ride out your way sometime soon. Just remember, I will no doubt be cycling out that way first.

How was the rest of your ride?

I was sitting at the corner of the table (the one closest to the coffee

shop entrance), next to Mervyn (most people know Merv - Carnival

oragniser).

If I remember correctly, Nance was on the opposite side of the table to you, so I would have been on her right (your left).

How was my ride? Okay, I guess - had to stop for a "p" which makes chasing back to the bunch more fun.Frosty2009-04-14 01:18:01

Thanks Frosty. Problem with memory at my age is that I can't remember past breakfast (This morning) so I only have vague recollections of who you were.

I do remember one of your guys flying past me up the steps and I gave hard chase until I bonked close to the top. That was some ride he put in there and I enjoyed the cahse and sucking that wheel. IIRC, that was a dark blue or black bike. Was that you?

I never heard much of the recruitment drive, as we have our own chit-chat going on our end of the table - but I guess it was all in the spirit of the club motto, being "the club that cares!"

No that wasn't me, but I know who you're talking about - he was sitting at the end of the table next to me - his wife was next to Nance.

My legs were much like porridge (pap) at that stage, so I declined to hammer it up the steps.

Vito certainly looked after the ladies on the ride, making sure they were never alone going up some of those hills and I respect that.

You had some pretty strong riders in your group. It was really great riding along with you and I apologise for being rude and not asking if it was ok to join your group.

Let me know next time you plan to ride that way and I will make a plan to join in. Get some of our group to join in as well. Most of the regulars on this thread are very keen to ride. We can get quite a group together.

I will probably join a club at some future date but right now, I just enjoy being with people who enjoy riding and am enjoying my efforts on a bike. At least I have some contacts now.

A lot of the social bunch riders are Albion wheelers and although friendly, you guys outdid them in every aspect.

So, who was the staircase speed freak?

First off, thanks for the ride guys, I really enjoyed it.  I suffered a little cos it was my first time back on the bike since 2 weeks ago.  I had also just returned from a week at the coast of reckless abandon in the eating department so I felt like I was about 20kgs heavier than before.

Okay, my turn to set the record straight.  I had NO idea what the plan was but for some reason recalled 'Bond' 'Joe Bond' mentioning a stop off at the circus.  I was very keen on just doing the short loop, but I was more keen on having a coffee and a chat with my buddies........ thus the insistance that we go the circus loop.  All the while, I'm telling Slave that we can ride 'whichever' and I can tell he's leaning to the short, slow option.... but the male ego is an interesting phenomenon. The look on his face is screaming out in objection to going straight while the others turn off but he casually says, "we can ride either".  Great.  About 5 minutes after we've passed the Lido I'm thinking about what a blithering idiot I am.... why didn't I just do the friggin short loop?  But we're committed.  Slave has his fair share of practice at pushing me up the hills (good going there buddy) and the next thing we find ourselves with the Germiston Crowd.

Nice meeting you guys.  Vito tried a great sales job on us when we stopped at the circus.. thanks for letting us join your group.  Only the few that I normally ride with are aware of my fear of bunch riding and I started feeling a bit more comfortable as the ride progressed.  Every now and then I backed off a bit to catch my breath and regain some confidence to join up again.  I like MTB'ing cos I can ride in my own space.

I was glad that we eventually ended up together again.  Next time we should discuss the POA BEFORE we start the ride.

Slave, thank you for hanging with me so patiently. (I would've been lost without you)

Joe, thanks for returning to the fray for some coffee, always so good to see you

GO, thanks for riding back to join us and thanks for all the pushing

PS: I'm NOT turning into a roadie

I was the overdressed one with the neon yellow sleeveless windjacket.

But Hi anyway.

I was sitting just behind that new lady on the Raleigh for the most of the way at back of the loop.

Most of my fellow licenced team members were on a tour to Mozambique, so I had the weekend off do do some slower than normal rides. They figure it will make them stronger for SA's (road champs) in May - time will tell I guess.

On most Saturday mornings, we head out Walkerville way and stop for coffee at the circus, if the coffee addicts are present. If you want to join us, best would be to meet along Swartkoppies road from Hennie Alberts down to the intersection at Klipriver drive.

This coming weekend is race weekend (Wilro 100 on Sunday), so the pace will be easy and slow on Saturday - probably the same as yesterday. However, once there is no weekend racing, you'll notice a "quicker" pace - but we usually wait for the slower guys at certain points around the route.

Hey there Nance. Apparently none of us had any idea of what the POA was. You have a perfectly acceptable excuse, seeing you wuz in Debbin (Kwazulu) the day before. I guess it was my fault for not asking what the plans were. I just followed.

All that indecision I was struggling with was basically a "conflict between body and mind". The mind wanted to spend as much time as possible out there on the bike. The legs were doing all the protesting. The ego finally won out over everything though. The male psychie is something even I battle to understand. smiley5.gif

It was a cool ride in the end. I did 88 k's by the time I got home and Mrs. Slave made me a really cool Omlett.

Hanging "back" with you was only a pleasure. I got in some good hill training (Chasing up that first Lido hill hurt some and then the steps, EISH. That Germies speedfreak dropped me big time and it hurt chasing him.) No wonder the legs are shouting at me today.

And to boot, we got to meet some intersting people from the far east, as well as getting some LSD with a bit of speed thrown in for good measure.

I was really stoked by the time I got home and the best thing of all, I didn't fall asleep watching the cricket.

Slave & co - sounds like you all had fun again yesterday. That's most NB I reckon.

Seems as if those GWheeler guys are on some sort of comm scheme for bringing members on board. smiley2.gif

Will be out of yr hair this weekend, breaking away to a secret hide-away, in prep for the Wilro on sunday.

We must try and do a long ride(80k's) again on wed 22, before we go queue up to cast our votessmiley32.gifsmiley32.gif

Now this is what I like...a bunch of riders talking about riding! None of us know each other from a bar of soap...but now we are chatting like old pals coz of the bikes!

I love it!

Was a pleasure meeting all the Germiston guys and gals...you guys are cool.

Ride, vote, ride some more. Who cares as long as we can ride? Everything else is secondary. Wait, eating is important too. Eat, ride, vote, aet and ride some more.

WW maybe you were looking too closely at that pic on the back of your ride shirt.

I never saw any nekkid cyclists around. What did I miss?
