Wonder if I will last 10km's with you guys. Seems like you all race the living daylights out of everybody.I would be wary to join your rides.

We talk up a big storm' date=' and then ride so that the dust can settle. [img']https://assets.bikehub.co.za/legacy_images/smilies/smiley9.gif[/img] Nothing special about us, just a bunch of cyclists enjoying cycling, and loving it to give each other h3ll about it smiley2.gif

It happens exactly as Agretos describes it here.

Lotsa talk, plenty dust, mega fun  - have not seen the love part yet.

Oh wait - have seen some of it with Slave and Monasmiley9.gif

So Nuwbie is now Trubie.

Nuwbie/Trubie if you had pitched on Saturday you would still have the same name but I guess you were bored ??

Give us the interseting stats, where did you finish ? avarage speed ?

Guess what I did yesterday, I dropped the main bunch on the long loop - yipee. I kept telling you guys that they getting slower and yesterday I proved it.

I also learnt that riding alone with this freaken wind in no fun, Trubie where were you to protect me from the wind ?

Slavey my boy what happend to you on Friday & where were u yesterday ?

smiley36.gif So Nuwbie now has a few miles on the clock and is now Trubie. True to his cycling.

GReat race there bud. WELL DONE. and tell Mrs Trubie, I'm compressed with her effort.

Having caught up with all the weekend banter, it seems there was more banter than actual riding taking place this weekend.

Friday I got dropped up the steps, AGAIN. Eish. No matter how fit I get, that hill always hurts.

SAturday, it rained, and it was cold AND WINDY. This is where the roadie softie side comes out and I decided not to ride. Strangely, it had nothing to do with pain because my legs were fine after Fridays fiasco of getting dropped. I need more speed.

Sunday was an interesting ride. I was hunting down two cyclist dudes on front of me and making good progress catching them when I herad someone yell my name. My good buddy Pierre and his SO (who is new to cycling) on their way to join the bunch. Slowed down and rode with them only to find Mona and company did not even bother to wait for me. After trying to coax morespeedout of Mrs Pierre to catch the bunch, I left them to do the job by myself.

Georgie and some of the stronger riders were going long so I branched off with Mona et al only to find a very depleted bunch and nowhere to hide from our verbal "friend" except way out front. These okes battled to keep up and I dropped them at 32 k's an hour. (Did I really ised to ride that slowly? I recall doing 38's along that section.)

So I pushed the pace for a while (41) and really dropped them. Just for kicks, and a much needed rest, I turned around and decided to go look for my bud. Went flyng past the Mona crowd (in the opposite direction and got some very perculiar looks) and found Pierrre and SO some way back. Turned again and rode with them.

Did a few hill accelerations, sprints and speed intervals and plenty U-turns until the steps. By now the wind had come up and it was cooling down. Time to fly. Tried to nail that second short step at 37 but failed in my quest. Close but no cigar.

Rest of the ride spent limping home on shattered legs.

Racman, dude, just come and ride with us. Turn that anxiety attack into a cycling "speed attack".

If I can do it, so can you. We never leave our buds behind. The diffs between myslef and the rest of the gang is, I think I'm fast, the rest are.

Seriously, we have great rides together. A more likely gang of renegades, your not likely to meet, but we all have fun. That's what cycling is about.

BTW, my bike also needs a wash and polish so while you're at it....

Then when it's clean, get on it, ride it, out our way.

Hey guys...geez it was cold yesterday. I rode through to Glenvista from Meyerton and I nearly froze to death...and that wind was hectic. I'm considering hibernation!

Glad to see you characters are all still riding though!

GO, I have had doubts about my pedigree this last weekend and I thinks that somewhere, I must have some Grizzly bear in the genes.

The thought of hibernating is a very attractive one.

When we started out yesterday, the weather actaully wasn't bad. It got colder (seemingly) as the day progressed.

Mrs. Slave is def going to be forced to make me a cycling jacket. (Ve haf vays und means.) And I think some ear muffs and leg warmers, arm warmers, gloves and a heater on the bike are the next orders of business.

Seeing as the planned and much talked about ride on Kids wheels isnt going to happen this morning' date=' because its raining[img']https://assets.bikehub.co.za/legacy_images/smilies/smiley7.gif[/img].

So I thought , well maybe give an update on the Emerald Winter CC which happened in Vdbijlpark yesterday.

It was flippin cold to start of with, I was pleasantly surprised by the turnout (both MTN and Garmin had their racing teams their), and it was a special day, for it was the first race for the missus - on her own nogal. (Ok I know 10 k's prob doesnt justify to be called a race, but she is a beginner - so go soft on her please)

Those of you who know the Stonehaven races, will know, its always tough because of relatively small bunches, and lots of wind, and the routes are somewhat undulatingsmiley18.gifsmiley18.gifsmiley18.gif, although some might have the impression that its rather flat. Those Shimano specs I wear , show me a diff picture - but lets leave that there.

I have participated in 9(incl yesterday) races this year (when is the day gonna come when I can say I have raced in x races this year????)

In 5 of these events have I managed to finish with an ave HR of 80%+ of my max which is 186.

On two occasions have I finished with a 153 (82,70 % of max), now that is hard, b@lls to the walls stuff, which forces you to somehow pop your eyeballs back, pick up your lungs from the handlebars, and beg, borrow and steal legs from whoever you manage to see next to the road.

Yesterday , I ave 156 or 84.32% of that max over the 80 k's, in 2:09, at an ave of 36.5, which my dear friends is the hardest I have ridden this entire year, and many before this one.smiley18.gifsmiley18.gifsmiley18.gifsmiley18.gifsmiley18.gif

So Ox, its seems all that plodding along, raking up the miles, is starting to pay dividends. I am so looking forward to the Bela Bela.

As for missus Nuwbie - she completed her race in sub 20min, so proud of her...

It was workers day afterall, had to put in some "work" there yes. Just checked, last 2, 80k's, was 2:28, 2:18, so ya miles and miles of fun.<?: prefix = v ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" /> <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Kid this is the race report. I'll save you the trouble of reading through the weekend pages.

Real story of the race was this:

You know these Stonehaven "races" are not so well controlled at the front , with a request for the licenced riders to start first, and 10 min later the tandems and open bunch. Well there are always some chancers who falsy believe that they can gain by starting in the lic group, when they clearly do not belong there.

I always enjoy catching up to them, riding straight past ,not saying anything, then chuckle while they try hang on.

We started at 9:10, 30 secs after the tandems. We passed the last tandem at 1.5k's,and caught 3/4 more on the way. Initially we were a bunch of about 30 riders, of whom 6/7 wanted to ride and took their pulls at the front. 2 Dudes wearing Harmony kit (One on a Schwinn, and other on on of those ugly green Bianchi's) tried to get the bunch broken up by putting in some worthless attacks in the first 12 k's. It did not succeed, and the suckers clung like fleas. Six guys eventually ended up doing the work at the front. After 30 k's , 4 of us decided to sit up, go to the back and have a rest. This did not last long as one of the original six pack surged up a hill at about 33k's, we could not hang back, and went all out up the hill, reaching the top I looked back, and we were only six. Relief at last, and we cruised to the turnaround at 40k's. Just before the tunraround (2k's out) the licenced brake away of 2 MTN, and 1 Garmin had

passed us from the front, and it was nice seeing some action as the chasing pack was going up on of the many undulating drags. It was even better to see some of the riders falling of the group, who now became our targets for the 40k trek back to Stonehaven.

It was also a bitter sweet feeling, passing the original fleas on the way back, and seeing the desperation in their eyes.

The six became 7/8 as we started reeling in the backmarkers. On 50k's we again had the 2 Harmony dudes attacking us, this time, I couldnt hang on (for reasons later to be discovered), and the Bianchi dude overcooked himself in the attack, and slowed down also. I passed him and still had the 4 leaders in my sight, when I looked around for some help, he was gone. So I tried to keep up the pace, and bide my time to the end. I managed to catch one/two more riders, and as I turned right at the 20k to go mark, looked back to see some of the original flea pack approaching fast. Waited for them and rode to the end sucking wheel. I finshed 8 in the open bunch, but when I checked my HR ave was 156, I knew why I couldnt hang on any longer. Well it was a nice ride, and as there is no official timing or placing, I treat these as hard training rides, I was satisfied with the days work.

Trubie, that's brilliant man.

I did read your weekend post but missed the speed part, 36.5km/h avg is fast.

Now I know why you had to change your name, a Nuwbie would never be able to ride at an avg of 36.5km/h.

Hope you going to slow down a bit when we ride, cause my legs can turn that fast yet.
