I have a good eye for kit' date=' next time you "draff out" take a picture and post it, you will get good response here. (what a dog I amLOL)

Mabe look for reviews online, or try see what other girls are using, as they should know best. Websited like www.bikeradar.com review ladies wear and have female test riders. See what they recomend.

otherwise.. as much as I hate to refer you there, I guess some of the large bike stores like cycle lab have ladies stuff.(donno about the service though).

good luck.

Thanks for the advice! Sadly, it was one of those big shops that the sales guy told me to "just buy the guy's shorts- its all the same anyway" when they didn't have the ones I was looking for. I'll try the online review thing...

Hi noobie,

ok, there's mike's bikes and also linden cycles. but your best source of info is right here.

personally i have found that going smaller sizes does work - but it's gettingthe right combination. also, joneen (at linden) wouldn't let me just buy the saddle that i'd been lusting for when i needed to replace my old saddle and insisted that i first try out a couple - including women-specific ones, so i know that it's just my butt that is fussy about what it sits on.

just remember that a lot of the time "women's specific" is just a marketing ploy so be careful of basing any decisions on that only.

tops-wise though, there is a huge difference. I utterly adore my first ascent ladies cut top and would recommend that to anyone. also, for a wind jammer, a ladies cut is also very useful as it does fit better around the chest-waist area.

bike-wise, i test rode a wsd trek mtb during my hunt for a new mtb and i wasn't impressed - i'm much happier on my mongoose meteore which has had minor "mods" done - shorter stem, flat bars (it came with risers) and i've had the bars cut narrower so that my arms aren't spread out as if i'm pretending to fly.

my road bike is a tcr but also a much shorter stem and i did get a ladies specific handle bar - the 3T eva - in a much narrower width to suit me.

Hey Slowpoke

Thanks for the info- I'm learning lots! Ja, I'm sure that with some things there is no difference, but I've got small hands so even the small men's gloves are too big so try to look for women's specific to get a better fit.

Can't agree more about the First Ascent tops- I love mine too! And I have to say that they are pretty indestructible (mine has survived a few of my crashes and still looks pretty good)

This could get me into trouble- but what are risers??Embarrassed

Noobie ... not sure if Casandra is still with cyclelab? Give them a call and have a chat with Casandra ....

Casandra is no longer with da lab. Noobie.... when you get back from holiday I think we should go shopping!! I want another top and a pair of shorts

Noobie - riser bars are ones that curve upwards, and as a result of that you can't cut them too narrow or you won't fit the grips on (let alone grips and bar ends)

as to gloves, i feel your pain. I have incredibly small hands but have found that the louis garneau XS gloves fit very nicely. i know that linden stock them, and i think that mike's also stocks them.

Specialized make a full range of women's equipment and components. In addition some of the Speshie sales staff at the dealers have done bike fit courses and are qualified to help in this specific area. Try Dunkeld Cycles or Fritz Pienaar Cycles. cycleq2008-12-18 04:44:31
