Look for a helmet that has a gap between the base strap that fits around the back of your head and the helmet. Giro, Bell, Met all have this. Plait your hair to make it shorter and tie the end back into your pony tail.

Otherwise pull your hair through all the vents and go for the punk look.

That is a VERY scary image!

I will agree with the plat thing, might help with combing out all the knots afterwards (ahh, student days).

To my knowledge the Fox and Giro helmets stop short of the base of your neck. Maybe also give re-cycle in Bellville or Cycle Trader in Salt River a call for second hand equipment.

as far as I'm aware, there is no 'ladies' helmet. I wear a Met and it accomodates a low-ish ponytail. As for knowing your size-you just have to try them on and take what fits snuggly, yet comfortably.fiasm2009-01-17 03:05:37

I have a high pony in a louise garneau, not uncomfortable, and the adjuster fits just under the elastic. my daughter also very long thick hair wears a giro atmos and  she pulls her pony down or plaits it
