How about this? Those of us that frequent the park and consider ourselves good citizens should pick up after the rest - it seems totally unfair but hey I'd rather stop for a few papers and gu wrappers than  be banned from the park. Alas it's another case of the "good" subsituting for the "bad" but eye on the goal people - keeping the park open for some fine hill training...

mux' date=' haven't been there in ages. isn't there a no entry sign at that downhill near the gate on the heidelberg side?[/quote']

Yes there is but it is tiny. That is not where the problem is though, it is people coming down the wrong way of the first climb from the N3 side - close to the cattle grid if that makes any sense.

I am confsed as to which is the right direction , if its a one way inside the reserve.

When we start at the Hotel parking area, we turn left  (the gate would be towards the right then), to start the very first ascend. There we turn left, and first left again, continue with that road until we cross the entrance road on the other side - where you also enter during race 4 victory (kareekloof side), - past the boom, and eventualy end up turning right into the road we climbed first in the beginning. (But then we would be riding against the one way on theat descend??) - is that right?) How would we get back to the parking area then if we need to obey the one way rule?

You dont turn right to go down the steep hill you came up 1st u go straight and it winds down back to the road between the entrance gate and the car park.

That descent is about my favourite anywhere, apart from coming off Suikerbos in the Argus.

that section of flat road after the first climb is the only two-way section of road in the reserve.

I have been to Suikerbos today. Maybe they should close the reserve for public, and I dont mean for cyclists but for all. There was bunch of empowered citizens in the parking lot by the hotel, playing music to loud,  making noise (or were they "singing"). The nature watchers stop anywhere and only accasionaly leave their cars. I have seen people trowing a bottle from a car. There was clown driving up-stream. A MTB guy appeared from what I though was a hiking trail. Quite few people riding in the wrong direction AND without helmets. Right on begin of the first climb there was a guy in CycleLab top riding down hill... Still great venue for cycling and appeared as if they cleaned the surface a bit.

I know there are a number of threads about this issue of being banned from the end of the year.

I was one of the loons who did the Race for Victory yesterday. Great race, apalling wind.

One of the things that comes to mind is that there was a written instruction on the race handout forbidding anyone from dropping anything in the reserve. They had road closure there for us too, so we had exxclusive use of the SBNR.

Thing that really got to me was the number of goo and gel wrappers I saw on the road. Really, there must have been one every 15 to 20 m.

I never saw anyone dropping one but to be sure, many were discarded.

The banana peels, I can still forgive since they are bio degradable.

This is probably one of the reasons we are being banned for SBRNR. Like is it so difficult for us to have somemodicum of respect for it being a nature reserve and not throwing our goo wrappers around the place.

If I was SBR management, I would have them all picked up and printed. Impose a heavy fine on the scrotum pimples who dropped them.

**Rant off**

Mux,

Maybe you want to suggest this to SBR management in the hope that some may be given the privilage of using this awesome training place.

Slave I will take some time to think this over. Right now my faith in mankind is at an all time low and mentally I am not sure that I am in a position at this point to fight for people who have not one iota of consideration for anyone but themselves. To often lately I see this behavior rearing its ugly head and frankly it is getting me down, or maybe just p1ssing me off.

Myself and Delgado have discussed this recently and we will be setting up a meeting with the park soon to meet with the officials. Will keep you posted.
