Today all the EPCM staff at my work (+-140 people) were called to an urgent meeting.

Upon arrival we noticed that no snacks, coffe/tea or anything was served.......this usually means BAD NEWS!!!!

As true-as-bob...we were informed that the main client informed us this morning that 50% of the EPCM division had to be retrenched by the 27th of this month. Unfortunately I fall in the 50% that must go.

I am at my present employer for just over 6 months, which means that I will only have 2 weeks noticeOuchDead

Two months after starting, there was already talks of financial difficulties on the project and that people might lose their jobs. So it has merely been a waiting game since end October last year to see when it would become a reality. At least I can be glad it did not happen over Christmas/New Year.

If anybody has an odd job around the house please let me know....Salary is highly negotiableWink

My brother is working over in Oz at the moment and he says all the foreigners on the work visa scheme are being layed off at the moment...not a good time now to go over.

Besides, my wife will never leave SA and I'm not too keen either.

eish, speed devil, feel your pain, dude! but here's some encouragement: you'll find that the saying "when times are hard, friends are few" is just not true. when i posted here that i got the dreaded letter last year, i was bombarded with offers of help, job tips, advice, names of contacts, etc, etc?even a grumpy young german hubber sent me a link this morning (shot hogThumbs%20Up!). one of the biggest positives is that i am now involved in probably the most exciting and fun projects of my lifeBig%20smile. here's wishing you all the best!

turtlek, that sucks. the horrible thing about any kind of false allegation is that the poo to a certain extent sticks. leave anywhere under a cloud and that cloud'll still follow you everywhere. hope you come right, mate!
