Hi Chaps

I have a set of Mavic ES wheels which I use for ?the races?, and extremely have with them, posted a 2:36 and 2:40 on the P&P 94.7 and Fastone respectively, however yesterday decided to ?race? the Emperor?s with the Vuelta Carbon Pro (stunning looking) even though they weigh 600gm more?..

Net shocking result? could not stay on the climbs, posted 3:02 with a puncher?

?? when should one use carbon wheels??

Thanks

My opinion, waiting desperately to get shot down, is that wheels don't matter much at our level. Use the carbons, the ES, standard 32-hole 3-cross on Dura Ace hubs, none of that's gonna make a big difference. Mebbe you just had a bad day on the bike....can happen.

I prefer deep section carbon wheels for our undulating roads in SA. Even in windy conditions I find I roll better. For stages in the Panorama I prefer to use normal wheels for climbing.

I think that I was mentally and physically prepared for the race.

The route was ok and above all familiar, with the exception for the N17 section?.

However the 600gm kept ringing in my ear!

Like someone else said, maybe just a bad day.!

Give it another go.

Cool, thanks chaps

I will try them again on the Carnival city, but definitely not on the ride for sight<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Maybe you shouldn't wait to race them.

Try both on your regular training routes which hopefully include a climb or two and see how they compare.
