I did last year's race, and it was also mud to the hubs. So, I don't think we can blame the "current" weather. I think the race is on a vlei which will always be muddy.

At MuxMan: Also, I understand that ppl put a lot of effort into organising the race, but the racers have the right to complain.

If you buy a T-shirt that fades after one wash you will be disappointed, you don't care that the t-shirt maker is battling to make ends meet, that he was sick for a week etc etc.

Anyways, my 2 cents worth...Justin2010-02-10 03:36:39

..

I think we can, i have done the route a few times when dry and its not bad.

As for the course design i'm sure Lee and co would welcome input on how to make use of what land they have at their disposal, but perhaps its a no win and they should not hold it next year.

The route is quite good when dry! I rode the route yesterday  including the sections closed off due to mud etc. And I see why they cut some sections, they are unridable! So not much they could do. I see they even left the spar and repril gel banners there for the homless.

So a thought might be to move the event to a date out of the rainy season if possible.

But as the MTB event is just a opening act for the Road race I'm not holding my breath.....

Maybe they should hold the mtb race on the same day as the road race. Then all the roadies that hate mud and water ( that's what mtb'ing) is about) will rather ride the road race.

I have ridden there when not wet and it is awsome, tough and dry. We have had a month of rain, even my garden is waterlogged. The tar roads still have water running down them. How do you expect a mtb race to be perfectly dry.

Lee put's in hours of work in his own time for no pay to try and get that trask ridable. He mows sections clears areas etc all by himself. I think he deserves credit for that.

There was a time when the more extreme, wet and nasty a mtb race was the better. Seems now we need long straight rides down sand farm roads with no hills.......oh yes, and a good goodie bag...........to make a good mtb race !!
