Shebeen Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Sorry to be the bearer of more bad news, but just got this in from a mate. Happened Monday 9 Feb, 7:30am. ************************ Howzit. The old man is pretty banged up. Compound break of 5 vertebrae (T3, T4, T5, T6 and L3). Luckily the breaks are on the front side of them towards the chest cavity so no spinal injury or anything so far. But apparantly its the most painful as its the front of your vertebrae which take the most pressure. He's not allowed to be upright at all, and the neurosurgeon is keeping him in hospital till next week for monitoring, before they make a call on surgery or not. He's a tough old bullet thou, so should pull thro alright in time. Some dude in an old bmw jumped the traffic light and turned in front of him. The old man slammed breaks to avoid the car, which still clipped his handlebars and sent him over them straight up. Came straight down on his face and neck. Dude slowed down, then drove off. If you don't mind posting something to see if anyone got a number plate or proper car description or any info that would be great. Happened yesterday morning at about 7:30am, in Walmer at the intersection of Main Road and 17th Avenue on the Fig Tree Village side. He was riding a navy blue Giant Reign. *** thing is he's going to be off the bike for a long time now. And he was training super hard as he was tied of being the second fastest old dude in the Veteran and Masters and Grand Masters groups at the races. Shot dude, much appreciated.

kevind Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I wish we could strike like the taxi associations do... just block off a major road of the cities with hundreds of cyclists to show motorists that we are here and they need to show some empathy toward us... The other morning at around 5.30 am I was motor pacing my girlfriend and some asshole with a lawnmower service drove up onto her ass while behind the car and climbed on his hooter... of 20 cars that passed us in the 2hours we were on the road he was the only poepol who tried something... People have no respect each other any more...
