My deepest symphaties to Colin's family and loved ones....

it breaks my heart that we have to write the same message now week in and week out on the Hub.....I hope that I don't have to do this again soon Cry

I just wish that there is a way or that we can find a way to stop this....I just don't know how.  This morning when we told a women (and no she's no lady) that her road behaviour was completely wrong, we got a f....off and and middle finger.....so what do you do to change people's attitude towards cyclists?  I wish I knew !!

Just passed it too. Looks like they were frantically working on a second person.

A word of caution to all cyclists riding through Milnerton - do not ride along Otto Du Plessis Milnerton' date=' rather turn into Pienaar Road through Milnerton and exit at the bottom of Boundary road to go into town. There is no hard shoulder along the stretch of road between the Golf Club and Boundary road just where the accident happened.

RIP to the deceased and best wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured.

I agree ! It is by far the safest/only route to take on this stretch. When going towards town on the R27 from Sunset Beach, take the first left after the Paddocks Centre traffic lights into Lupin Crescent. Follow the road around and left, and then right into Pienaar Drive. Ride all the way down, straight through the traffic circle at the high school, until Pienaar Drive ends in a left bend stop, then right onto Union Road. Be cautious while crossing over at the next main road [Loxton] and also at Greyton Ave [5 roads down]. Union Road takes you all the way down to Boundary Road. Turn left and carry on all the way to Otto Du Plessis. When going the other way I get onto the R27 from Loxton. Memorise these directions and try it out a few times, you'll feel much safer I promise you !

RIP Colin .. condolences to family and friends.

This is terrible.

My thoughts and prayers go to his family.

I hate seeing stories like this. Its so sad. It weighs heavily on my mind every time I swing my leg over my bike. I am looking forward to the Argus being done and dusted - That's my road season over.

PI, I often used to commute on that route and I always thought the solution is easy.  Make the left hand side rideable (better surface), remove the islands at the end of each stretch and make the whole shoulder a cycle lane with some rumble strips/collapsable plastic strip/cones (don't know how to explain these) between the bike lane and road.  That would make a lethal stretch much, much safer withoutt major construction.
