I've got this weird clicking sound on my roadbike,,it sounds like its coming from the bb

I got rain on the road while training a couple of times

so the guy at my lbs said it could just be dirty

so he cleaned and also replaced my chorus bb with a record one I bought recently

afterwards it got better but the sound is still there

I went to the lbs this morning and personally took of the cranks and the bb, cleaned everything out again, new grease etc (you know the drill)

we even took out the seat post and cleaned it

took off the pedals...

(even checked the frame for cracks..)

we even changed the wheels to see if it might be a hub,, but the click is still there...

does anyone have any idea what it could be??? PLEASE??

You seem to have checked most things.

Did you check the seat rails as well as the seat post? What about the headset, could be dirt in there?

My bike went in for a service a month ago. Before i took it' date=' it had no sounds. After the service on the first ride it started making these clicking sounds. BB

YOu didn't say when the click occurs. Does it happen once per pedal revolution, once per wheel revolution? When you're standing or sitting?

Clicks dont' come from bearings but where bearing cups connect to the frame. The usual suspects are the BB  bearing cups. These should be cleaned and either greased (preferrably copper compound) or wrapped with plumber's tape before replaced.

Ditto for the pedals.

But first lets see when it occurs.

Hub clicks are usually random. If the bearings in a hub are rusty you'll get a sound emanating from that direction (although detecting direction is difficult when you're riding) like cellphone cellophane sweet wrappers or buring dry grass.

The reason hub sounds are random is because the bearings dont make a full turn each revolution of the wheel. They half roll, half slide.

thanks JB,, I'll see in the race tomorrow what happens and post again

but it is usually once per pedal stroke, and seems to get louder if I pedal harder?

Had not had time yet. Doing more miles on MTB, training for Epic. Maybe the sound goes away!

ok I did the race yesterday,, and...

the click is still there Cry

The bottom bracket has not been put in properly or its been threaded' date=' speaking of experience. I originally thought the frame was cracked.[/quote']

I also thought the guy at the lbs messed up, but the is I was there personally the last time we took out the bb and cleaned it and put it back!?

what do you mean the bb has been "threaded" ?

I once fitted new pedals on my bike, 3-4 months later this clicking noise appears, tried everything except the pedals because they were new. Finally (after about a month) I decided to take the pedals off and put my old ones back on, problem solved. Later discovered that one of the bearings in the right pedal was shot. After a heaty discussion with the sales person at a wellknown bikeshop and after the owner had been phoned, they replaced the pedals.

I had a similar thing on my road bike. It turned out the crank arm had been over-tightened (the arm on the opposite side to the chainwheel if you know what I mean). There are two bolts on that side securing the arm to the crank shaft and they're supposed to be tightened to a specific torque. I loosened them a bit and the sound went away.
