Gearing on a track bike

I would like to know how the gearing on a track bike works

 

According to this : https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=43747&KW=track+bike it has 3 chain rings and 3 gear rings, but i dont see any shifters?

 

How does it all work?

You change the rings and sprockets for the race type you doing-different gear ratio's

What size teeth is normal to run on the track? 48T x 15/16/14?

49 x 15 (88 gear) should be fine.  Will develop nice legspeed.

 

50 x 15 (90 gear) if you have the power.

Trackies normally have +- the following available

Chainrings: 48, 49,50

cogs: 14, 15, 16

underachiever is correct. For most racing in SA approx 90" is perfect.

 

To work it out: 27"(wheel dia.) x chainring / cog

i.e. 27x50/15=90 or 27x48/14=92.6

I have a 48T front, so will try the 14 (92.6) and the 15 (86.4) then maybe get a 49 or 50 front later...
