I am a runner and a cyclist and have just been given a Polar S725X as a gift.

Im looking to get either a Polar footpod or the Polar G1 GPS speed and distance sensor but don't know which is a better product Confused.

Does anyone have any experience with either of the 2 and what is your advise on which is a better product?

Thanks

Digging deeper, it seems as if the G1 GPS is compatible with the S725X Wacko

Dunno why it is not listed as such... Have a look at the discussion on http://forum.polar.fi/showthread.php?t=35

Personally, I'd love a GPS enabled heart rate monitor, but to me the watch + separate GPS unit is somewhat bulky, I'd rather go for a Garmin if a GPS becomes a necessity.

Guess I collect enough Vitality points without the 200 a pop from the Polar...

After all of that, I'd prefer the GPS to the Foot Pod.

Ive use the Polar RS800 with S3 pod for running, i assume it works much the same as the S725 which uses the S1 pod.

Overall I'm quite happy with it, the only problem ive found with a pod sensor is that it does not give equaly accurate distance and speed readings over a range of running speeds. i.e it is accurate at the speed that you ran during the calibration run.

For example if you run the same 5km route slow, normal and at race pace each time you will get a slightly different distance and min/km speed.

Obviously a GPS device would be much more accurate no matter what speed you run at, only draw backs that I can think of with gps:

1. If it looses the satelite signal (bad weather, trees ect can affect the signal).

2. The size of the watch and antenna is still a bit on the cumbersome size imo.

Perhaps in a year or 2 the GPS running watches will be a bit smaller,

EDIT: That being said, the differences in distance and speed with the polar pod are not huge and imo not worth worrying about.
