Go for a Knog Gator 605 cant beat the brightness at the price, retails at R3300 and pushes out 750 lumens www.knog.com.au, no tools to attach and battery life is 3.5hrs, with a charge time of less than 3hrs, total package weighs 500g

I'll admit i'm a bit bias being Knog's Brand manager but i'll take any comparitive debates on their effectiveness, or our support of the product in S.A which is also something you must take into account(back-up and spare parts availabilty)

Only between R4000 and R5000

They could probably shine the bark off trees !!! but they are good.I have a set of the Tripleshot. Am very happy with them.

Buy them on the internet from one of the U,K, bike shops. They will be a lot cheaper that way.

GoLefty' date=' the link is not working![/quote']

The typo is easy to spot for those of us who can spell...

For the rest (e.g. Marius), Titus posted the correct link a few posts before GoLefty.

CRC got a few nice looking lights... the Hope like looks promising but if on a badget the Exposer Joystick got the best reviews.

i ride with a printeton tec headlamp only, and it's enough light for me - under 1k

the joysticks exposures are awesome little lights, had test-ridden one one night on 'boven's singletrack, and was *very* impressed with the amount of light and the size.

good news

I have located suppliers for 3 x2w LED 12v downlights.  (these replace the 50 w halogen downlight spotlights that are used in the plumber pipe DIY lights).

There are two:

www.sunfor.co.za

and

khanyisa.co.za

The LEd lights draw less electricity than the halogens which means either smaller batteries or longer lights.

At about R350 for the downlight and R100 for the battery (12V gate battery).  You could build a 6W led light for under R600.

ya and how do you charge it.....? Huh?

a good charger will cost you another R500 so you;re in for around R1200 for a decent home made jobbie anyway

Parts for my DIY triple Cree LED set with a Li-ion battery pack & charger came in around R1200 (excl. my labour). Much lighter and I guess brighter than the setup described above.
