Someone asked about Kenda Small Block 8s? I've used them for a few years now and have never had a problem with them. Got through Epic with no punctures and have maybe had one flat in the last 2 years. They are very fast rolling, but they are heavy! Tried to use the non UST versions with a Stans conversion but the sidewalls didn't last, a problem I haven't had with the UST serion. I tried Crossmarks and Larssen TT's but think the small block 8's are faster rolling. The Crossmarks are more grippy on the technical stuff though. Got a new bike a month back which came with Bontrager Jones XR's. Very light tires and great grip on the single track, just a little worried about the sidewall thickness. Will see how long they last as the rear tire seems to e wearing quite quickly.

wellthink I got them for a good price - 100 bucks a tyre less than a monorail.......

I checked up on MTBR.com, and the kenda small block 8s weigh in at 805g while the crossmarksweigh in at 690g. If you look at the reviews, ( not sure how much faith I place in them) there isn't much to chose between the tires with the kendas rating 4.25/5 and the crossmarks rating 4.17/5.

I have Crossmarks LUST and they are bullet proof... (mine are 700g ea)

Have also used normal crossmarks tubeless and they last well... 510g to 580g (530g to 550g ag)

Regarding Small Block 8's UST - I love the 1.95's and they are 630g - never had a puncture with them...

I've been using UST Crossmarks for two years now and have done

the Epic and Sabie Experience on them. I use the UST.

I have never had a puncture that my slime hasn't sealed.

Traction is good on dry and they performed very well in the dry and

dusty conditions of the Epic. During the rain and mud of the 2007

Sabie Experience I was still riding up slopes guys on other tyres

were finding too slippery. They're theoretically not for mud, but

they work. IMHO.

I have only had a Larsen TT bubble on me and that was after I had

ridden it down to near the canvas...

nothing at all. They have this nasty habit of blistering and bursting at inappropriate times. On more than one of my sets' date=' and a number of friends sets as well. Stay away. Rather use mountain kings or race kings. They are just about indestructible[/quote']

Same with me - while they might be great for Epic riding, I am done with them...

Going to try Mountain Kings this year

This weekend I blew a hole which I could fit a golf ball through in a sidewall of the Jones XR's...just riding along.

I have ridden crossmarks for as long as I can remember..

So Now I want to try something new. WTB ?? Can anyone share please, they have a couple of nice treads, especially with winter comming up.

Also specify if you use the UST or standard version.

I can reccommend WTB... On the web, there's a couple of threads warning against using the normal ones tubeless, but I've ridden normal ones without problems and know of a few others who has...

Wolverine 2.2 has a great pattern, and rolls fast with big volume. Looks like an aggressive tyre but it's a surprisingly fast tyre.

Nanoraptor 2.1 is another fast tyre with good grip.

Vulpine is my fav and is a semi slick of around 480 to 510g, nice volume and fast rolling.

The Prowler MX 2.1 is also a great all round tire!

All of them have very nice rubber compounds and were between 480g and 600g

They are much cheaper than most other tyres too... going for around R300 when I last looked...

I like them, the rubber is not as hard as maxxis tyres (although the new monorail is softer) but they are great race tires!
