The Star this morning reports that Andrew Maclean of Cycle Lab and Fritz Pienaar of Fritz Pienaar cycles are in deep s**t for participating in price fixing and are under investigation by the Competitions Commission. Summons have been issued against those two but minutes of meetings in the SAPS possession show many other retailers were involved.

Seems we've been had boys and girls.

I really think these okes didn't realise that what they were proposing

is illegal. Otherwise, there would be no way that 'evidence' would be

so freely available. Think Tiger Brands and the bread scandal - these

big business types knew exactly what they were doing hence the

subterfuge.

Unfortunately for them, though, ignorance of the law

is not a defence. I kinda feel sorry for them, they just trying to

protect their businesses in the face of globalisation etc.

Reality

is that you should rather protect your business by examining your value

proposition and amending it as necessary if it no longer stacks up in

changing market dynamics....

That's a previous post. I don't particularly know either of the gentlemen concerned, but lets face it, they did get off their bums and do seriously impressive things for our sport. If they were naughty, they will have to make amends, but let's not stand around celebrating their downfall.

I don't think we should be gleefully awaiting these guys' downfall. Remember both have also done a great deal for cycling.

McLean does not play mister nice guy, he isn't a particularly friendly oke in my experience. He got loaded by working hard. Which is how most okes do it...

JA maby so, they go to bigger extends to improve ther trade mark and market their brand, but f^(&^king with the prices and in effect rising the overall RRP of bikes is just f-up.

If they want to make money out of the juppie guys, they can ask `n higer price, but leave the rest of the shops to do their own deals. Milking a already bad economical situation is just not right

We're all in business to make a buck.  The operating costs for these superstore shops must be higher than most realise.  Then we go out buy goods from CRC - me included, and some of us then expect the local guys to fit them at standard pirces and then warrant the parts if they pack up.

Make sure your own house is clean before you comment on someone else's!

please show us the proof that this actually happened ?

They had a meeting with some proposals (legally wrong), but they may not have been taken up by the members at the meeting (I spoke to a few owners who were there and said no). But your post indicates you have proof ?
