I would Hate to doublecross someone of Mampara's stature but I have a different experiance.

I am a bit of a lightweight Boney joungster (at 27) but I have had that seat for about 3 years. I rode a very hard roady seat before that and then My dual sus came out with that on. On my first race I did on it (the caroo to coast) I had a disturbing experiance.. My nuts whent numb.. I rode to the closest Gentleman I could find comfort In and humbly asked him, if this happens to him and If I was about to lose my manhood. He told me to get up and let some blood through..

This occurance hapened on just about every ride I went on no matter how long. I thought It a regular thing among cyclists and Just something we dont talk about.

So The end of last year I got a bargain on another seat and I never got this numb nutty experiance again ever!!

I think the Belair seat has to much foam in the middle, the foam is what blocks off the "main vain" down there which runs between your arsebones.

So you see If you have a hard seat The arse bones keeps your other parts suspended and the Bone takes the punch. Thats why guys that ride for long ride those thin seats. Its not about how hard t is, And It sounds like a contradiction but the harder the saddle, The better. (to an extent and not to be Blindly followed as gospel)

So I would rather go for something like KIWI's  planet X saddle which goes for about R300. I have one on my roadbike and Its more of a "proper" seat

Hope this helpes

I have had  a similar experience, also quite a skinny guy (not much padding in the butt region). i used to ride a specialised phenom gel 143, which in the end I found was too wide for me. I then got hold of the SDG Bel Air for free and thought I would try it out. Its very comfortable, but I find that if I spend alot of time sitting down I experience numbness around my sit bones, which is almost instantly alleviated if I stand up and pedal (also lets you stretch your legs out). I never experienced this with the Specialised and reckon I will get the thinner one when I have R950 to blow on another saddle. For now the SDG remains one of the most comfy saddles I've tried, but it is pretty heavy.

True Bos, all saddles are not for everybody. I would never recommend a Arione to anybody but there are people out there that will go to the end of the earth preaching the gospel of Arione. On my MTB I have a Charge Spoon now. I got it just because I wanted a brown saddle and they were voted budget saddle of the year in the UK. It cost me R350 but some friendly hubber brought it from the UK for me. On my road bike I have the Planet X Superlight and I will not change. I even ordered a second one for incase. I still have my old saddle because when/if I ever sell my bikes, my saddles are not going with.

Hairy, the Planet X can be bought from Kiwi here on the hub http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.za/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=PLANET%20X%20SUPERLIGHT%20TEAM%20SADDLE%20CHROMOLY

Hairy remember that saddles differ for everyone. The physiology of every person is different. Hence some people feeling numb on saddles that other have no problems with.

Why could life not be as simple as having to only find a colour that you like and making sure it works with the bike.

I used the Arione for a short while and it felt good. So I am hoping that there are readers on this forum who have used both and could hopefully give comment accordingly.

Hey Hairy, I've been riding an Arione on my road bike for ages, I find it very comfy.

I bought a DS mtb last year which came with a SDG Bel Air and so far I've found it super comfy. Did a few 3hrs rides with it & no problems. Haven't done any really long rides yet tho.
