...............if you slice your tyre open on a ride (road that is) with all the glass on the road these days I recently neatly sliced my tyre open so badly that when pumping up the tube it protruded right out the tyre wall.

Took it all off again and put a small glueless patch on the inside of the tyre but it only held for about 10 kms and all the stones went into the tyre and punctured the tube again.

Basically I think its something I need to just keep in my pocket for a get you home fix.

I guess I could ask at a shop,.........................but I prefer to ask for an item at these places, not advice.!

A small piece of Liquifruit box - you know the aluminised/plastic/carboard goodies that the juice comes in? It's waterproof, flexible and durable - I have a piece in my Maxxis Lust covering an inch long slit right through the ture - 4 months on and all is good.

It's commonly referred to as a gaitor.

This was main tread' date=' not sidewall Fand, but thats a good tip - never thought of it.[/quote']

hmm.. it should work for the main tread as well, IF the inner tube is pumped hard enough...

You need a new tyre' date=' the sliced one is waiting to blow out. I dont know how many tyres I have trashed on glass in our roads, damn irritating. [/quote']

Yah, sure, I have replaced the tyre, I just want something that will get me home without issues, pushing a bike 50 kms home is just out of the question.

On my MTB I keep a some duct tape wrapped around the seat post for this type of problem. I've also taken an old toothpaste tube and cut some rectangular patches with rounded corners to place on the inside of the sliced tyre and to be kept in place by the duct tape.

Never had to effect a repair, so no idea if it will work.
