Saddle question.....

Ok, I'm planning on taking the big step saddle wise and upgrade to a Fizik Gobi.....  (eina pyn vir my beursie!!)

I've only heard good things on this saddle, but have a question:

As a dude my tools are of serious concern for me, so my question is this:

A saddle like the gobi doesn't have the gap in the middle to aleviate pressure on the prostate... Is a saddle with the gap the better choice?

Please advise......

My advice is try and ride a few saddles before you buy.what is comfy for me may not be for you.

A mate rides a Gobi and he says the best saddle he has ridden. I am on one that has the little gap and I love it. 10hrs on a Saddle, no pain.

I've tried a fizik and hated it, personal preference.

Try see if you can get one of the Fizik test saddles and ride it for a bit, see if you like it that way, then you don't have to lay out cash until you know you like it.

I have a Selle Italia Gel Flow saddle with the gap in the middle on my roadie and quite like that.

I have a Gobi on my mtb and dont seem to miss the gap - the shape works fine for me. I would try before you buy if you can.

I had a Gobi and my sitbones are to wide for it as it is 130 saddle. Go and have your butt measured. I changed to a 143 Specialized Avatar saddle and it is 150% more comfortable as my butt actually fits on it. Specialized have got an Alias which is similar to the Avatar but weighs 100g less, Alias = 220g, for R1100. I think that is an awesome buy if weight is a concern.

The idea about the fizik's are that they have a wider sitting area to distribute pressure off the perineum. But you need a skinny butt to have that benefit. If you are a larger guy like me, 1.87 @ 95kg's then fizik's might also be a bit narrow.

I think Specialized have got the least % of blood loss to the perineum out of all the brands.

I also have the Selle Italia Gel Flow on my road bike and a Scott saddle without a gap on my MTB. Both are equally comfortable (and I spend MANY hours on the MTB saddle, much more than on the road bike).

Fritz Pienaar Cycles in Irene. You sit on a foam pad for a couple of minutes. Then the measure the distance between the indentations your sit bones make in the foam.

Sounds dodge, I know but it isn't Wink

Gobi is a great saddle...So many of my mates are using them, they have had no issues with them even on the long stage races!
