I haven't ridden them yet so I can't comment on their longevity of shifting. However, on close inspection, they seem to be of a better quality than other cheap alternatives like BBB. One thing though: they are not for weight weenies. That doesn't bother me in the slightest. I think that there are far too many cyclists who are obsessed with weight to the point where it seriously damages their wallets and mental health, with a near-negligible effect on their cycling performances. This applies especially to wearing parts like casettes and chains.

At my pre-Epic service the LBS recommended that my cassette and chain be replaced. They advised to go with a new LX cassette. Quote - R2,800 for a new XTR cassette versus R400 for a LX cassette. They post my order 3weeks late, after 5 weeks they sent replacement order which only arrived here 4weeks later. All and all im not that impressed. Got to be impressed with the prices though
Jules Posted April 9, 2009 Author Posted April 9, 2009 I had an issue once before but it was because the item I chose was out of stock. Sometimes it says it's in stock and then it's not. It's easy just to contact them and tell them to leave the out of stock item off the order and ship the rest. Also helps to stick to high-volume products.

I still make all my impulse purchases at the LBS, but for a lot of things it's just not worth it. Look at the prices of tyres, for example. Or wheels! I got a front wheel built by them for about R930:Hope Pro II hubHalo Combat rimDT Swiss Stainless 2mm stainless spokes Now at the LBS, the hub would be about R1000, The rim R500 or more, spokes 32xR10 plus labour, say R300. I've just saved over R1000 on just ONE item. Then there's the stuff you just don't get over here. I bought a right-hand XT brake lever for R3xx. Over here you can't buy them loose, you need to buy a complete set that's close to or over R2000. You still want to buy from your LBS? Don't get me wrong - I still support them. My bike is going in on Tuesday for a complete strip and rebuild (with the new parts) and I'll have the chain replaced as well as the front chainring. And I'll most likely buy another pair of DX pedals.

We must remember that this trend has been going on for a while now in Auz; NZ; Eur and USA (so in rest of world in other words). These guys just order online and it gets dropped at their house normally at no charge. Some people have warned me though against ordering complete bikes. Lots of times it arrives here with different spec to what is on the site. Real hassle sorting it out
