I spent the weekend at Giba Gorge with a couple of mates to ride and catch some of the UCI World Cup in PMB while we were down there. The WC rocked but we nearly did not make it as we could not get of the trails! Are these the best trails in SA or is there something closer to JHB/PTA that could compete with what Giba Gorge has to offer?

I've never been to Giba so I can't compare, however I have been spending lots and lots of time at Groenkloof / Fountains and I think the trails are amazing. Especially the single track.

I think Groenkloof / Fountains is what lots of other MTB venues want to grow up to be one day. Wink

Bored girl and I rode Giba and the WC course yesterday!

I think there is little in Gauteng that compares to the Giba stuff in terms of scenery. It might be possible to find single track that is similar though.

I know Groenkloof and Fountains well as we ride there every other weekend......and let me tell you that groenkloof is a tar road with some potholes in it compared to what I saw/rode this weekend. Do yourself a favour MarkStockton....get your ass down to Giba Gorge and go drink from the Giba trails cup..........the kloof will never be the same again....

there are a number of good jeep track and single track along the railway lines from Cullinan-Rayton-Mamalodi-Pyramids-Britz way for the adventurous, also some good stuff around the small holdings of Rooiwal.  Calabash also has some trails around Walmanstal area.

Who of you have been to Rietvlei in Alberton, It is my home course and Wendal has done a great job there with the singletrack. It is a lot more flowing now. How does this compare to the rest?

Hello MG, yes, if you were here you would have seen our offer. However, we are always busy with new developments as we have a passion for the RIDER. I forsee new trails as sponsors are excited about our potential. The only critics have been people with personal issues with me but.... cyclists are in charge.

Nothing in Gauteng can compare to Giba. Although a lot of peeps are doing fantastic work on trails they just do not have the natural terrain to start off with. Giba is in a valley prefectly suited to cut singletrack into.

Do yourselves a favour and get good on your local GP trails and then take a weekend trip to Mankele. 3 hours drive. Very special.

Who wants to compete, we can never compare as we are in totally different terrains. We have what they dont have and so YOU have the advantage of choice..... so what is your problem...You have  Giba in Natal and many in gauteng... choose where you have the safest, most fun... THAT is what counts.. you..fun...MTB and who else counts????

for flow, i reckon the nicest singletrack in the country is the river sections at van galens. don't tell nancy i said that...

for pure adrenaline, the section along the fence and over the twig bridge at groenies. it's straight, but if you nail it on a rigid...nothing compares.

in a race, i really dug the downhill section through the woods at about the 25kay mark at last year's eston race. the xc course at karkloof two years ago was similar - just wish they hadn't parked the ambulance where the singeltrack met the jeep track. that was eina!

i would also like a go at coming down the single sections of the magalies monster climb.
