which one' date=' mother goose??? you gonna *have* to show me? not because I want to do it, of course, but the bike is not very good at resisting challenges.? [/quote']

?

As the Jeep track starts there is a single track off to the right (I think it is a hiking path....) seriously rocky lungbuster. Very few make it all the way without walking. Great for training.

er, and kinda illegal...

...heh....?? There are always ppl on that section (on bikes) some coming up and some coming down (I did think that was a bit stupid and only once saw ppl riding down.) There is no sign up that says its a walking path, or a cycling path for that matter. I just assumed it was part of the course (if you are angry at yourself!). I think they call it "Heartbreak Hill". Why would it be illegal?Shocked

holy for the walking sections, you just go on a weekend when there's mountainbike orienteering ... enter, get a map, and pretend to search for the controlls, but actually just search for the best paths between the controlls :D

Currently my favourite is the 'Rim Trail' in Waterval Boven. 8kms for awesome riding which points in the right direction (downhill).

Boven is probably MTBiking's best kept secret at the moment, but

won't be after this weekends official / unofficial opening!

Glenn is still working through some land access issues and the trails

still need to be marked. A permit system still needs to be introduced

to control access on SAPPI land, so there's lots of work to be done.

Anyone wanting to experience Boven would need to contact Glenn directly.

I'll post pics and info after this weekend (if Glenn allows me to).

I did Giba the week before Easter, and i got to agree it was certainly awsome. when you consider it cost us  20.00 ZA ronds each (during the week) it was true value for money (we were even offered a guide for free), when you consider what you pay at MTN veld park "ooops sorry i meant Bike park" up here.

We also did Holla trails in Balito - if anyone wants to ride an awsome route through the cane fileds while on holiday - you gotto do Holla trails

I agree. We camped there for three (3) days and payed R210 per person (for all three days!!!!)  and we got free entrance to the park every day. That is good value in my book!! Clap

Dit you guys try the food @ their "Cafe"? It's FANTASTIC!!!!Star

ooooooooookay, i'm totally convinced!!!!! rim trail it is! that piece of singletrack just blows away anything else i've ridden! it's just got everything. the opening section through with the valley just dropping off to your right is awesome. nice and rocky in places just to keep you focused on the task at hand. then some fast winding track to put the pedal down. the real fund comes once you pop around over the top and see boven below you?man, you just have to tuck your nuts in and go for it. there's a tricky approach to the gap jump, some challenging rock drops, and sweeping switchbacks down to the river at the bottom. probably going back with michh - who earned herself four stitches yesterday - in a fortnight. gotta take the trance then. it was nice to give my body a rattling on the hardtail there, but i reckon that is full-sus territory!

you're right: glenn has done an awesome job. was great to meet him - and yourself, i guessWink - this weekend! actually, everyone was just sooooo cool this weekend. there was such a great vibe on the the hill. a special shout-out to anita, who kindly offered to hang back and ride with breandan both days so i could go play. that was i got to double back and ride most sections twiceBig%20smilehope steve's injury isn't too serious. he looked awfully sore in the bakkie. saw him in the parking lot of the hospital on the way to town. that 4X track is a helluva lot of funBig%20smile

hahahaha, LOL, classic image that painted in my mind!

You guys are right, 'boven has some siiiiiiiiiiick potential for hardcore riding. Glenn has built some classic trails there. I agree, the rim trail is something else. Certainly is full-susser territory, and tubeless (I've had to hike maaaaany k's before from double snakebite punctures there. Very sharp rocks). Big up to Glenn for the countless hours and cash spent building those trails. I know how hard he's worked to make them happen, and while he's one of the nicest guys I know, he's also dedicated to busting the sickness almost daily. SOOOOOO unfair that he lives there. It's a very special place and I for one am very glad to hear that people have started pulling in to ride now. While for years 'boven has been one of the rock climbing meccas, the riding potential was always there too. A MASSIVE thanks must also be given to Mike (who owns Tranquilitas) who has very enthusiastically allowed the guys to build a rad pump track and dirt jumps there as well. It'll be great to see many riders starting to pull into 'boven for weekends. It's a small town, and it'll really help the locals there, and, if you drive fast, the 200km's from Jozi goes quicklyWink

Yeah very cool, spoke to him ages ago about the trails there.

Quite keen for a revisit actually!
