Garmin woes!!

Recommended Posts

This morning my Garmin 305 worked faultlessly during my ride. I got home and plugged it into the USB to download data. I noticed the cable was wrapped around something so I unplugged it and the replugged it after sorting the cable. Now it refuses to turn on, or even communicate or charge....Cry

Has any body had the same issue? Any advice?

My 305 did this often, give the unit a "hard start"

Press Mode + Reset + Power buttons simultaneously, see if this works, once you have done this, I suggest you download the latest software for the unit and update it.

Mine does this periodically - it just goes dead. If I leave it for a couple days it comes alive again. I believe it has somethin to do with dust getting in the start/stop//reset buttons; they don't 'return' properly and so the on/off button doesn't work.

Garmin is legendary for its no-nonsense replacement policy so if you still having nonsense, just take it in to a dealer and they will sort it out.

Hi DaLoCo,

My 305 did the same thing. It gets "stuck" if the data cable is unplugged while the Garmin Training Centre is running.

A hard reset will get it working again. You only need to press the mode and reset button simultaneously.

PS Here's the list of reset functions for the Edge series:

Garmin Edge Reset

Power + Lap = hardware (hold 10 sec)

Mode + Lap = software (hold 10 sec)

Lap + Start/Stop = data purge (hold 10 sec)

Note that only the last sequence given above should wipe your data.

Cheers,
