Merry Hubbers

Looking for contacts for a local (Cape Town) engineering / finishing works that has an anodising bath...

I want to find out if they can anodised SS spokes, costs, etc...nothing like a customised ride.

And if anyone is keen to do the same I am happy to share the love.Hug

Look under anodizing in the yellow pages. I did and found a place in PE. It is actually quite cheap. They wanted R150.00 to annodise a crank set (that is their minimum charge).

They say that you can only annodise aluminium, which means that if your spokes are stainless steal, it probably can't be done.

You can select from a wide range of colours.

and the anodising it cant chip or anything??

What is that places name I might think to re anodise all my gold stuff...

I assume that you are asking me. The places name is Cuspal Manufacturing and Anodising CC. Phone number 041 487 1264

As far as I know anodising is pretty solid and doesn't chip like paint would, but it is extremely thin and just like any metal, would be subject to scratches from stones etc.

hmmm, I've got a couple of cranks that could do with some blinging. Was going to do a polish job on them but this sounds better.

strictly speaking...only aluminium can be anodised...for any other metal the coating process is different (similar to chroming, and you cant do the fancy colours...i think you can do gold though, but then it wont have the same "colour effect" as anodising)

I've done some anodising of small ally parts at home (its not really difficult)....12V regualted power supply...sulphuric acid, a bath to put it in and some colourant......really easy once you got the hang of it

I once took  a crank a few years back to be anodized and when I got there they said they couldn't do it for a whole bunch of tech reasons......will be glad to hear from someone who has a before and after pic....

Hind sight is 20/20

I realized after posting that anodising steel is indeed a tricky affair. It is possible but is quite specialised, but I will endeavor to find out if it is indeed possible in SA. I have heard of a UK company doing it to there steel frames.

On the flip side and to try simplify the issue, has anyone heard of companies making aluminium spokes...besides the likes of Mavic and Industry9 and there tubular spokes.

FTF....can they do any other color....I found these guys, but have not contacted them yet...I heard its is not such a good idea to get brake calipers anodized....GTI red break calipers would look awesome on my bike....Clap

Phone Ian at Cycle Factory Store. (021) 552 8285 They have a contact / connection / supplier who does annodizing and powder coating. Top-notch job. Guy does MX bikes and rims and stuff too and it lasts.
