Question for the Garmin/GPS ekspets ..

Quite a few but the main one is that you can download maps to the 705 and it can then navigate to a destination. The colour screen is larger and much more readable than the 305. I also found the 705 more reliable than the 305, I went through 4 305's in 18 months (all swapped out under warranty).

Don't think you would need it but you can also use power meter type thingies with the 705.

305 does not do maps, so no routing, mapping functions.

Also, 705 has much bigger memory, and supports Ant+ powermeters.

I have both and no problems with either but prefer the 705 although i dont use all the features on it.

From the sales specs the 705 is claimed to have 15 hrs battery life and I think the 305 8hrs.

That could just be sales pitch. I have the 705, but find the Auto Pause/Resume feature almost unusable on an MTB. If you lock up the rear wheel it auto pauses immediately when riding technical stretches it often does the same.  Simple feature, but they never programmed the device to have have a small delay if the speed goes from X to 0 instantly. Does have a delay for controlled stop.

What are the differences between a 305 and 705 besides the colour screen?
