Hi,

Greetings to all.  Smile I just moved to South Africa and I need to find a bike shop to service my bikes. Anyone can point me to good service shops in the Sandton/Morningside area. Any info is much appreciated. I have a Trek road bike and a Gary Fisher hardtail.

Welcome! If you need a riding partner just let us know. There are a lot of us in your area. CycleLab are good and have the bonus of having a club and rides from there.

Dunkeld cycles is great. I've had small problems with my bike and some just before a race and they always are willing to help immediately and get it sorted.

They also have good quiality stock. Not just the cheper things like gloves that only last 2-3 rides then you need to buy new ones.

I've been to a few shops before and one had to book your bike in for the servive and some you need to book long in advance for service bookings.

But Mikes Bikes is just too far for Fourways residents. That said, nice shop, and nice service.

I take my bikes to Cycle Science in Broadacres - its a small owner run shop that still offers personal service by someone who is passionate about bikes( as opposed to money!!!)

I agree, Mikes is far. I live in Bryanston, so I'm not exactly close to them, but for me the quality of workmanship is worth the 30 - 40 minute drive. I also appreciate that they'll tell me when I'm being a moron with upgrades or schemes. Every time I ignored their advice I ended up regretting it.

Example: The first fork on the Goose finally gave up. It was a Suntour, so no surprises. Mike tells me to get something decent, even if I buy used. I force him to put on a new Suntour against his will. It's now 3 forks, and a few thousand rand later, that I finally have a proper replacement. If I bought the RS he wanted me to buy in the first place I would most likely have saved about R1000.
