javadude Posted May 11, 2009 Share Compacts are more than just for easier gearing, they also allow for narrower spaced gears at the back, allowing you to use more mid range gears. If you run a 12 -27 or 11 - 25 cassette there are huge jumps between gears. With a compact you can run an 11 - 23 cassette and have enough gears for the hills and the downhills. The only time you may suffer is in an out of the saddle sprint against Cavendish, where a 53 / 11 might just come in handy. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
