Hey everybody,

Those of you who did the 40km route - how do you like the first phase of my mtb trial? (except for the mud)

Yes, just the last single track (in the veld) on the 40km route. It's about 3km long - the first phase of the trail. Don't really get a chance to build the rest - but I'll try to finish it before the end of the winter. Did you do the trial? What did you think?

Heard it was a great ride' date=' but unpractical for a race as it is very easy to take shortcuts.  [/quote']

Thanx for the tip Fanie - will keep it in mind with the rest of the trial. I still think it's on a guys own conscience if he take shortcuts.

true, but it happens in races. Anyway, I will love to do the trail some time or other!

nope did not do it myself but spoke to a lot of people who did and this was more or less what they all had to say. don't know about how the single track was but the people I spoke to felt that it was a little bit a waste of time as they were just going "heen en weer" to not really get anywhere. And some guys just walked straight across the veld and ignored the single track.

It was advertised that there's no single track on the 40km route. So for starters I think that the route should be what it's advertised to be. And they said there was to many places where they just threw you off the road for the fun of it, that was a bit unnecessary.

On the 80km stretch the guys said they really did a lot of useless riding that frustrated them. The marshalling and marking for the race was said to be poor and a few guys missed turns.

Also the cutt off time was moved for some but others where not given a medal when they went to ask for one. The one guy said, in his words "I have never seen such a f$&k you attitude at any other bike race". Can't remember his name.

If the single track is open i'll definetly go ride it sometime for fun!!

But sounds like it's a more ride for the love of it, trial than a race trial.

But all in all sounded like a K$K organised race and a not fun or pratical route!, rather a "see if you can ride this" route...

At the end they didn't even know who won the ladies, so they just anounced that the ladies winner must please be honest and come forward. That is pathetic!

Thank goodness i didnt orginise thisShocked, they just used my single track part for the 40k. It could put the race in a bad light for next year if thats the overall fealing of the people some other guys said that it was a great ride and that it make their training worth their while. Anyway ill let you guys know when the trail is finish. It wil be more for fun trail riding than for racing with a few detours for the guys like me thats not so good at the technical stuff!

Well I will defenitly keep an eye on this thread as I would love to try out your single track when it's complete!!

As for the race, I hope they get it on the map again as a good race, cause it really is a stunning area for mountainbiking!! Maybe they should get dirtopia involved??

I rode the 40km.

The trail has huge potential, needs to be compacted and ridden in. Then it will be super sweet.

For the race it was loose and bumpy making it very difficult to maintain momentum. Therefore frustrating, specially as it was placed at very end of race (tired legs).

Look forward to riding the rest of the track...
