What would be the better option to shed some weight off of my mtb?

1. replacing my shock (currently have a rock shox tora 302 u-turn)

2. replacing my wheelset(currently have shimano sealed disc hubs with jalco rims)

how much weight will i get off?

which option is better?

which would be the most economical?

Confused

Your most noticable place to save weight is in the wheels. 500 grams off your weight in tyres and wheels will be a lot more noticable than a lighter fork.

Economical however does not fit into your argument.

Hi Hans

I have just replaced my 2008 Tora 302 with a 2009 Reba Race and saved 0.8 kgs. Apart from the weight saving the bike will handle much better and you do not have to rebuild the whole bike. I saved a futher 0.15Kgs by replacing the handlebar and stem which was done at the same time.

It is the easiest and cheapest option.

So if you not on about 6-8% body fat don?t consider anything else.  I heard of guys spending R10 000 plus and only loose about 600-700g which is the difference between a full and empty water bottle. Shocked

tried to save weight on wifes bike, KCNC bars, post etc, and my Mavic SL's wheels, got to about 1.2-1.3kg saving.

Its very hard to shed Kg's with out shedding the cash!

loose body weight, then change the wheelset - shimano xt are good value, then perhaps the fork rockshox sid, then you can start on spending more small fortunes on all trimming milligrames off each component and get a carbon frame.

much cheaper to cut out the Mcburgers and stick to salad.

The sad bit is that you have to make sure that the switch to carbon is actualy a weight saving LOL

Upgrade to a better fork (with better damping) not to save weight but to get a better performing front end.  I don't know if your Tora has ?Motion control? damping.   Some of the solo air Tora?s have.

I currently ridding a VERY entry level fork without damping and it isn't a lot of fun.

I have replaced both of those items before and have noticed the following:

1: Replaced Tora 318 with Rock Shox SID Worldcup ( Major weight saving, caused the bikes balance to be 50/50).

2: Upgraded to Full Tubeless Wheelset. Trimmed off some weight obviously to losing the tubes. Imrpoved rolling resistance.

Both these upgrades were throughly worth it. However, I noticed the fork to be more beneficial. Obviously weight saving but added control and more confidence in technical single track areas.

Change the fork and enjoy the added weight of your wheels on the downhills Smile. Provided you have good brakes you should pass quite a few people....... HA HA!!
